Uk car production figures - where to find the records?
In a pub conversation, we were discussing UK car production figures. Some people were saying that around 40 years ago the UK built more cars than they do now. Others were saying that we are now building more cars than ever before.
I've had a look at the Society of Motor Manufacturesrs and Traders website and it doesn't really give the answers.
So - can anyone point me in the direction of UK car production figures for the last 40 - 50 years? For the purposes of the pub conversation, we're only interested in cars made in Britain and not who owns the company (so figures like London Taxis International being the biggest British owned manufacturer while making 870 cars per year, against Nissan making a few squillion in Sunderland are irrelevant).
We all accept that there are a lot less people involved in car building and that the companies making them are not British, but I'd be interested to compare output figures.
