Morning all

My flat is all sorted furniture wise, but looking a bit plain

Where's a good high street shop place that I can get some tasteful pics to hang up? Not sure wher to look, ie M&S Boots etc?!

I did have a load of high quility Salvador Dali prints but they've gone missing

Something interesting of that nature would be good....

There is a nice gallery on Westover Road..or is that a bit *too* nice? Think prints are from £75 to £xxxx
Otherwise John Lewis/Alders/others in that group have good repro's.
Cheers

Thanks Chuck,

Ive used the one on Westover before, some good stuff in there. I forgot about them, but will pop over in a bit and have a look. Do we have a John Lewis? Not been to town for a long time! Might go look at Castle Point too.

You're quite a way from an Ikea I think, but they have loads of decently priced prints, from Cityscapes to seemingly random squiggles - there's loads to choose from!

Otherwise, pop to your local frame shop - they usually have some interesting artwork for sale that they'll sell unframed

Or, if you have a bit of time, make your own! Piece of pi$$ - especially stuff like this:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...732161109&rd=1

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...732255625&rd=1

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...732162754&rd=1

Or, if you have a decent Digital Camera, take some abstract shots (mess around with focus etc) and get them printed onto canvas or Acrylic - not so cheap, but LOOKS great - I'll try to upload some pics of stuff I've done, later on.

As previously mentioned Ikea have some nice prints. Athena are more expensive but I've got a couple from there.

http://www.totalposter.com/ is a good Internet option

Get the Autosport magazine or such like and collect the "real" thing, non of your póncy bowls of fruit pictures!!

Failing that try any Halcyon gallery.

Think of your favoutite movies - got a brilliant reservoir dogs advertising poster - you can get them all for under a tenner usually - and can normally be chosen to match in with colour schemes - The Matrix Reloaded Posters go well with white. I'm collecting a few to go into my home cinema if it ever gets built.

For normal pics I'd try Athena, Ikea and Art Factory - otherwise look round the net, a lot easier if you know what you're looking for.

If you are interested in something a bit different with potential to create conversation and interest then you might care to take in the local university end of year art shows. While a lot of the work will be "junk" to be honest you can get some fantastic work and sometimes at reasonable prices. All the "famous" artists for the next decade are in there somewhere. It must be said that you are probably about a month late for most shows but worth asking.

Just buy it because you like it and never for an investment, but if you get it right you might end up with something worth a few quid as well. My current fave young artist has a site here:

http://www.blankahubena.co.uk

With her masters show work here:

http://www.blankahubena.co.uk/masters.exhibition.htm

And some earlier work here:

http://www.blankahubena.co.uk/gallery.htm

Oils are never cheap and can be too large for an average house (The dog in Blankas masters show is about 7 feet tall) but water colours can be very affordable and much more of a talking point and personal statement than a print that many people may have seen before.

Bloody hell - loads of replies

Just got back from some poncey Bournemouth art shop and got some good stuff ranging from a few good Dali prints, to the pick of the bunch - John Travolta in black and white from Saturday Night Fever Ikeas's a bit far from me so will have to give that a miss.

PCharlie - I like those ones on canvas that are about an inch deep board.

Like the idea of getting a young student bird round to paint something naked

Ive got some good signed Al Pacino Scarface ones to frame and a signed Alan Shearer one

DBM - i've got one of those in my living room. "Red 2", i think it's called. Personally, a bit of propa bo art appeals more than your typical athena type tat. i mean, errr... art.

no-one mention the "c" word, please...

If you are after "Decent" art then try the roundhouse gallery in Senna Cove, Cornwall. They have some really nice stuff from what I remember, bit pricey, but most of them are orginals rather than prints.

Just trying to do my bit for decent artists rather than the print holders/Ikea/John Lewis etc...
