Question Fast starts.

If your stationary and you want to get a fast start off how do you do it?

Is it going to **** the clutch/gears/cogs from doing standstil starts?

get the engine on the rev limiter and then step off the clutch - ye olde vorsprung durk technique will take it OK.

That will make it stall?

What do you do with the accelerator? Just plant it down?

How many revs? (RL is only 7k)

it wont stall if you hold it on the limiter - plant the accelerator down and step off the clutch

I remember on top gear in the suzuki leana when that bloke was driving with denise van alton (watwever) he had the gas pedle down let the clutch up and bit of cog sheered, not nice, just scared of fookin the cogs up .. ..

suzuki - made of tinfoil - Audi - nearly as solid as a BM - try it a few times - what is the worst than can happen?

If you're not scared of killing someone or yourself, being totally uninsured, being done for driving without any licence or worse then I can't see why you are scared of trashing the clutch. Just do it you "wet weekend"!

Wear some good trainers, put one foot in front of the other, lean forward, push off with your back foot and then shove as hard as you can with your front foot. Remember to bring your back foot forward or you'll fall on your face.

fast bloke is right - on the rev limiter then get your foot off the clutch as fast as you can. Might be worth feathering the brake with your left foot also - just to check any wheelspin.

Not revs at point of max torque then plant throttle when clutch engaged?

I remember doing a 7k stationary "Side step" start in my sistersols company Impreza Sport.
The clutch was not impressed

I did it in my Scoob - once - you could smell burning clutch for ages afterwards - it is different in a good solid german car though

Racing off the lights is gay. Have some mechanical sympathy and don't do it. Only people it impresses is 14yr old Chav birds.

In gear speed is what matters.

Or indeed any hire car on the planet. I undertook just one of these starts in a Focus Tdci. Max revs, sidestep the clutch. Bang! Nothing.....

Car lurched forward and then rolled to a halt. Total loss of power. I though "how do I get a new engine, gearbox and driveshafts through expenses" when I decided to turn off the engine and start it up again (more out of desperation than anything else) - everything was fine! Must have confused the ECU or something.

Same with left foot braking on any new VW Group motor - ECU cuts the power and therefore you are effectively left foot braking in neutral. All quite amusing once you peel yourself off the inside of the windscreen....

if you are worried about the clutch, first dowse the front tyres/road in deisel - then use fb's technique.

Senior AP has it right of course. If you want to ruin your engine, clutch, gearbox, driveshafts, etc long before their time-just go ahead and do it, hope you can afford it.

It cracks me up that he claims not to be scared of being prosecuted for effectively stealing someone's car and driving uninsured with no licence and yet he is still scared of his Dad finding out he has cooked the clutch!

Will you get a smacked bottom Audi-Boy?

You really havent got a clue have you how to do starts. For fast starts you do not need high revs because otherwise you will just wheel spin for miles

This is how I do it succesfully.
1.Hold revs at 4k
2.let go of the clutch and at the same time (might take some work) push the throttle to the floor.

I drive an '86 5 cyl Audi coupe quattro (no turbo)
