FAO carp anglers part 2...
Anyone know of any good carp lakes in the Leeds area, preferably within 30 mile radius of Harrogate?
Have Selby3Lakes top of the list at the moment but can't phone them (no answer) and their website is down and has been since trying to access it since last week so looking a bit doubtful.
Looking for places that have a website as well so can see pics of the place to make sure its no village pond type setup, looking for decent sized lakes with 20lb+ carp stocked and peferably ones that allow night fishing.
If anyone can post links, pics etc then that will be a great help
Cheers

ah, glad you brought this up, I need some advice
I have been invited to go carp fishing by a mate, apparently the chosen method is floating crust - which is dead handy as I don't posses any hi-tech carp terminal tackle . Now I plan to take an unsliced loaf for the Mr Crabtree bit, question is, what other methods & baits for catching them off the top can I use?
controller floats?
The line I have is 10lb braid with an Avon type rod - will this braid be ok for a hooklength?, it is very dark green, would I be best with mono?
I don't think there are any major lumps in there over 20lb, so I'm hoping the avon rod will prove good fun.
cheers,
mike.

Mike get some dog biscuit as well (but I don't mean bonios ) and fish with these on the surface. I'm not really up on floating baits as I don't have much luck with them and stick to boilies every time. My mates use dog biscuit and have great success with them and they don't fly off the hook like a lump of bread. They do need some preperation though as you can imagine you can't just drill a hole in a gog biscuit cos it will crack. They are supposed to be soaked and then dried out to soften them up and then you can thread several onto a hook length and they will stay on ages
You can also get floating boilies and artificial baits that mimick bread and biscuits that are far easier to keep on the line!

First of all: B2Z... Woodlands in Thirsk is good, plenty of fish over 15lb, a few over 20 and a lake record of 29lb supposedly. They will also bite ALL day long so a very enjoyable water with LOADS of carp. Maybe not for your hardcore carpie but lots of carp around 10-15lb.
Mike; what you have said there should be ideal, at the water i fished recently (co-incidentally the above mentioned water) i picked carp up all day with floating breadflake/crust with controller float. Had carp to about 12lb on this using a slightly beefed-up match rod, 6lb line with 4lb hooklength. I would personally use mono rather than braid but that is my personal choice, its up to you. However, you may be able to have a bit more fun fishing a bit lighter than you mentione, personally i think its more fun as you have to use your head more but obviously not TOO light as then youre running the risk of a lot of fish swimming around with hooks in their mouths.
Have fun

Cheers Matt, just found out there is a lake at Otley that is just round the corner from my mates place that has been opened up to day ticket and a lot of carpers go there, carp upto 30lb so will do us fine. Also allow night fishing for an annual membership of £68 (including night permit)
Going to fish it on day ticket Saturday and Sunday for £3 a day (cheap oop Norf aint it! £10 a day at least down here) and then if its good we'll get the membership as at that price its a bargain even if I only make it there a couple of times a year!
Oh and Woodlands was on the list but with this one being a walkable distance from my mates house means we can have a few beers so no choice there

B2Z, I never fished, but I wondered... do you guys ever use dried silk worm puppies ?
My carp go absolutely *bonkers* when I feed them those.
Available in most decent koi/water garden shops.
Of course, I object morally etc... blah... to fishing
