Undecided about this.....part of me thinks, Christ, not this semi-literate tuneless fcukwit again, when he comes on, and the other half thinks....oh, the other half thinks the same, I appear to be at one with myself suddenly. I am forever in your debt, for helping me to reach such a considered, rational decision!

Not my thing but they are at least original and different, Parklife by Blur notwithstanding.

Would never buy it myself but at least its not ganster wannabe he sings about friday night at the kebab shop smoking spliffs and playing playstation until your thumb gets sore. Sums up the dull mediocrity of life for most of todays yoof.

Theres some clever lyrics in some of stuff he blurts out with.

Best of all he mocks the everyday lives of the typical chav. And he doesn't pretend to be 'ard and not some gansta/pimp turned rapper.

It's not what I call music, but I'll give him credit for being different. Which is alot more than can be said for almost every rapper of the west/east coast, Blazin' Squad (no coast ). And not to mention the drivel that blurts out the gobs of the multitude of manufactured boy/girl bands!

I can see both side fo the story, but i actually quite like them, i have both albums. I know as many people who hate them as like them.

Dunno hopw to describe there music really, they dont come across gangstar wideboy but there is a hint of chav, however they may well be take the **** out of them.

I wouldn'y say its "Music" in so many words but i do like it, bit different i suppose!

Modern day urban poet without doubt. Reciting to music seems to be a great money spinning way of getting the public to hear his lyrics.
I think the guys talented, although I'd prefer to listen to a bit of Stone Roses or New Order myself.
When The Streets are on telly I tend to just enjoy the lyrics and the guys kinda laid back styleeee.

I used to HATE the streets - couldnt understand why anyone would like some tw@t talking over a beat - but recently heard "blinded by the lights" by the streets, and it has to be said its a top tune! Good beat, good lyrics -fair play to that Mike Skinner guy really.

" Yes, yes, oh yay "...and he's a " modern urban poet "? If people think that's good, just shows how bad the rest of the dross on the radio is these days! Can't disagree about the Stone Roses though.

I think hes quite talented- very true to life what he sings. Thought he was essex chav type to start with- but I think he's northern?
Blinded by the lights is a top tune for anyone who has experimented with the round ones

I think what he sings about is quite enlightened. I particuarly like "Dry your eyes mate" as I think its quite genuine and that hes not trying to be a typical gangsta (I'm so hard) rapper. "Fit but you know it" is also something I like as its more accurate than most people will admit.
A lot of his songs are a reflection of the humdrum existance of modern life and I can relate to that.
I like it.

"Been there done it, Stereo MC's blow him out the water."

True, but then the MCs were fronted by a real life heroin addict

Against my better judgement, I quite like The Streets. Ignore the music and listen to the lyrics and they say an awful lot about modern life for teenagers in Britain. Yes, every generation has a similar artist, so you can't call it original, but that doesn't stop it be relevant.

Hmm, does that affect their musical ability? I still think Skinner brings nothing new to the table, track marks lacking or not.

I'm starting to get the picture now. Has anyone heard MC Pitman??? He tells it like it is (in a hefty Midlands accent). I love his rants, err... raps.

I think The Streets do bring something new to the table, well observed and well written lyrics with a sense of humour in a style that is unique (apart from the Audio Bullies )

Comparing them to the Stereo MC's is nonsense, IMHO plus Skinner's already racked up more hits than them

He is very talented at getting people to part with their money, I'll give him that, but then people pay £1000's for a turd if Damien Hurst signs it
