If you've been paid in cash then I'm afraid you will get stung for tourist rate when you bank it in a Sterling account. For cheques it's slightly different and you negotiate the cheque, special form and everything ,and you will be given a more commercial rate I think.
Depends mostly on your bank for how much they will sting you for on charges though. Don't get drawn into the "We don't have any charges" rubbish as what they don't get in charges they get in a naff exchange rate.

PO will change cash I think. I got an Euro cheque for about £60 and a real pain at bank and charge was about £7.00
