Radar traps...
A mate of mine is in the Met and recently told me about a new radar trap that some forces have just purchased.
The onfo he gave me is a little sketchy but apparently it has a range of 2 miles and can even take some sort of a pic to confirm that it was you driving. Apparently it costs 8k a radar. The Met apparently ordered v few but Essex Police have ordered in the region of 800 of the buggers so be careful.

Yes this was in the news last week I think. They're being trialled in Dorset. The cost of £8k per radar gun can easily be justified by the vast profits each one will make, which of course, is the main priority for the Police Plc. these days.

For the police to get the full 2 mile radius to work the road has to be completely straight with no hills etc. Otherwise it's just the same as the conventional radar and any good long range detector will pick up the signal before you get into the zone - unless it is a straight road of course (then you are fried)
Won't be long till the radar detectors and deflectors are able to operate at the same distance so fear not!!!

It isn't actually a radar device but a laser device, hence the ability to keep a nice narrow beam width over such a long distance. The ability to operate over such a distance isn't really new and I suspect a lot of this fuss has been caused by the press picking up on a press release and getting all excited. For the average motorist this isn't actually anything new really. The actual distances reported by the press were 2000m, this is 2km and somehow became 2 miles in the telling. The product brochure for the Prolaser III actually states a distance of 1330m but, clearly, in their dash for your cash the scamers have let some little porkies creep in or they are using the device well beyond it's design parameters.
It is interesting to note that the Dorset scammers have a new "project manager" as the man who did the job has recently gone from strength to strength being promoted from that position to Head of Fixed Penalties and then to Chief Executive. Such wonderful promotion for someone head of road safety in a county that has seen a 50% increase in fatalities in a year. Clearly the cameras are working well for them.
Actually, the cameras are working well for them as the Head of Fixed Penalties job was advertised at £40,000. That's where all the money they ****** from your wallet is going then. A 50% increase in deaths and your cash goes to fund the person causing it.
Be sure to mention these facts to anyone who comes to your door in the run up to the elections. If they can't give you a good answer then vote for someone else.
