Have you ever driven a CTR WWSD?

Best:
1. Ford GT40
2. Porsche 959
3. Porsche GT3
4. BMW 3 series CSL
5. Honda NSX
6. Honda Integra Type R
7. RS Cosworth (undecided if it should be a 'scort or sierra)
8. Bentley Continental T (just for the 600lb/ft)
9. Ferrari 250GTO
10. AC Cobra
10. Jaguar XJS (not for the car, but the fact that although it was slated it could out pace every other car on the track in the ETC even when it did twice the pit stops and that the chassis still lives on in the DB7 - couldn't have been that bad then)

I would add to the worst cars:

1. Rover Streetwise
2. Rover CityRover (yet to drive...but I'm sure it's crap)
3. Rover/Austin Metro
4. Austin Princess
5. Austin Abassador
6. Morris Marina/Ital
(I'm seeing a trend here )

7. Aston Martin Virage (yes - that is the car that the Vantage is built on, you drive one and then tell me what YOU think)

8. Vauxhall Corsa (It's far worse to drive than the Nova

9. Vauxhall Vectra

10. Suzuki X90

I know the Austin Rover stuff wasnt the best but everything was pretty crap back then, nobody mentions the Mini as it is now a hallowed product but lets not forget, they were crap as well, dangerous rusty little piles of poo. What about Hillman Avengers, Vauxhall Viva's and Alfa Suds, all crap, just seems the Maestro and its ilk are so much a target for being crap that nobody notices anything else, still happens nowadays, they do turn out some old designs but they are basically alright, they arent a BMW so you cant compare them, when a Rover product goes wrong its crap, when a BMW warps another head or the bores disentegrate nobody mentions it ?

The Rover Streetwise, not to most peoples tastes but why is it any worse than any other soft roader, they are all pointless and useless off road, at least the Rover doesnt bother carting a redundant 4wd system around with it.

Best car, hmmm

MK1 Golf GTI
F40
Fiat 500 (we had one, it was crap but so much fun)
Capri Mk1
Jowett Javelin (British and ahead of its time)
AC Cobra 427
Peugeot 309 (100 quid banger, lasted for years)
Porsche 928 (911's are nice but so obvious)

Worst

Metro GTI (contradicts what I say above but I had one and it was ****)
BMW 3 series (Good car, owners tend to be less good)
Original Mini, still have a soft spot for these, still crap though
Original Beetle
New Beetle
BMW X5, Handsome, well built, obnoxious, pointless, driven by the very selfish
Citroen 2cv, what a steaming pile of plop
Porsche Cayenne, impressive but wrong

Hang on - you can't diss the 2CV, Beetle or the Mini as when they were new, they were absolutely revolutionary. They may seem a bit backward now, and a thirty year old Beetle on cross plies is more dangerous than asking Edward Scissorhands to do your flies up, but they are certainly not bad cars.

I would agree with all the Top 10 ones (except that the Audi Quattro needs to be the SWB Quattro Sport) and add the Carrera GT.

Worst cars? Fly to the US, go to the Hertz car park and then take your pick. Any mid range Americal saloon is the height of lamentable, poorly engineered, compromised mediocrity.

Have you ever been in a 2CV? It was like being in a boat in a storm, it rolled so much. I was always suprised that the door handles never scraped on the road going round corners. They were also utterly gutless. You had to thrash the living crap out of it to make it even move slowly. I haven't even touched on the looks.

Also, the irony of 2CV's is that they were often driven by tree-huggers, yet were one of the least environmentally friendly cars on the planet.

FTR, the 2CV wasn't mine, I just had to endure being driven in it.

I know I know but it was never meant to be a 911 rival was it? However, as way of getting millions of penniless peasants reliably and cheaply accross the rought post war roads of France, it was a work of genius.

Anyway - back to the plot....

Why is that then?

A friend rallys a nova on single venues and often beats scoobs. His is a pretty much out the box 1.3 nova against 4x4 turbo!

Just interested why you dont like them

I'm slightly confused about the Nissan Sunny as being one of the worst.

N13 Sunny's handles superb, and the 1.8LX blew away XR3's and the like, 1.3's had 5 gears whilst the competition (Ford GM etc) had only 4 gears. Is it to do with the Chavish Pulsars or the very bland looks??

Just curious (yes I did own a few)

Worst must include....

Zatsava Yugo
Dacia Denham (reprehensible Renault 12 re hash)
Mercedes Vaneo (have they no shame?)
Metro (specifically the MG Metro Turbo - indeed any mid 80's MG)
The J/K reg era Escort
Talbot Matra Rancho (eugh!)
First generation Vauxhall Vectroid
Ford Mustang - that sad 80's one with no curves and a 2.0 asthmatic engine
FSO Polonez (my mate's dad had one when we were about 12 and I used to try and throw a sickie to avoid being taken to school in it)
Vauxhall Frontera - my neighbour has one - she is a) blond b) a hairdresser and c) originally from Southend and it is the shabbiest bit of minging kit ever! (the Frontera that is, she's actually quite fit but that's the subject of a thread that may or maybe not called "have you ever had too many beers and done things that may compromise your relationship with your neighbour but was probably worth it".......

Ali-B - reason I included the Sunny is because IMO the car is just about average in every department. It's not particularly fast, looks woefully bland, isn't that comfortable, doesn't handle that well, isn't that economical etc. etc. Just "bleugh". Hence it's in my list. Okay?

Porsche Cayenne, impressive but wrong
- go and ask Porsche's accountants and see if they agree with you

Too many cars for both lists but in the top 10 best, you would have to include a 911 (which one though - original RS, GT3 (mk 1) GT3 RS?) or Carrera GT too many.

In the worst 10 - no doubt my number one worst car would be a Rover 800 - shockingly bad, closely followed by the non-turbo diesel Rover 400 - bad beyond words (and the sodding cars broke down on me twice, leaving me stranded on the M40 and the M25 - not good).
