Redkop- I'd say worth trying. I always thought of it as mumbo jumbo but I'm sure I saw a difference for many years.

My g/f wears a magnetic bracelet and says it works.

My dog wears one too but hasn't replied as yet.

I have worn one for a week now Spoon and have to admit I have noticed it working. I have taken far less painkillers than I was. Probably bought it too late for what I wanted it for, as I have an operation on Monday on my troublesome shoulder.

Still can't beat eating a bit off a bar of soap though for pain.

These things are complete bunkum. The benefit you are experiencing is down to the Placebo Effect.

I've worn a copper one for about 4 years now. A mate at work gave me it when I was getting loads of pain from when I broke my wrist a few years earlier. I used to tell him they were just a gimmick, but to be honest, I get next to no bother from it now compared to before I got the copper band.

I'd recommend one to anyone.

Andy.

Drop it in your petrol tank, the results are amazing. They use them in P1's I think.

No I havn't tried one. Neither have I tried religion or taking mercury or any other non scientific mumbo jumbo.

As I said before, there is a plausible explanation called the placebo effect. If your mind is open to suggestion then placebos can reduce perceived pain as it is a subjective sensation.

Well, the magnetic bracelet will help with any screws that are loose (I'm sooo dead ) I've never tried one myself, always been tempted to, do know a few people who do swear by them, problem is they are hippy like so they 'believe' in all this natural stuff man! only thing I know to have eased their pain is a kilo of skunk, too chilled to feel anything at all bracelet or not.

ajm- never tried one, in that case I rest mine as you aren't qualified to comment.

WWSD- They prey on anybody who allows to be preyed on but not me chap. I was given one gratis to try.
As for your comment on refusing to be ill I too aren't ill and have never suffered more than the odd cold but pain from various bone breakages is what I am referring to and believe me, I tried to refuse them too.

So you have had successful pain relief by wearing a fairly inert piece of metal around your wrist?

If this makes you "qualified" then please explain to us "non qualified" people how it works if it isn't placebo effect as concluded by scientific studies into the subject.

To save you some time regailing red herrings at us:-
  • they have already done studies to show that "ionic" (magnetic bracelets) have no effect over completely inert "placebo bracelets"
  • they have shown that a tiny amount of copper does dissolve through the skin from copper bracelets, and although they have neither proved nor disproved the benefit of copper, the same effects have so far not been repilcated by increasing dietry intake of copper through liver, shell fish, nuts or dietry supplements, suggesting no effect.
  • Successful absorption of copper occurs mainly through the stomach/intestine, not the skin.
A) I havn't said anywhere that these bracelets can't sometimes reduce the amount of perceived pain, because that much has been proven by the testimony of some wearers, such as yourself. However, all the information available on the subject suggests that this is down to the placebo effect.

B) I cannot understand why you would get so upset about this. Surely your main concern should be that your bracelet works for you. Or is the real reason you are upset because I have somehow dented your ego by telling you that the reason it is working for you is because your mind is open to suggestion?

Where on earth does it say I'm upset, you're laughable???

Yet another post with a "resident shrink" in attendance.

Rofl, I ask you.

Oh and I never said I wear a bracelet but then the facts aren't either important or relevant in here are they?

So what exactly is your issue with the information I have presented? Which bits do you consider are inaccurate then?

If you are going to dismiss my opinion you are going to to have to disprove the information I have presented.

FFS, I post a simple question and it ends up with people being sarcastic to one another. What's up with you lot? Too many threads on SN go this way lately!

Redkop, I am sorry.

I posted a scientifically accurate answer to your original question and then along comes the Spoon, stirring up the metaphorical broth and dismisses my answer out of hand:-

ajm- never tried one, in that case I rest mine as you aren't qualified to comment.
My subsequent posts have been to try and convince him that what I posted was accurate. Sarcasm, for me, didn't come into it.

I have offered my answer to the question and backed it up with facts. I'm not sure what else I can do.

ajm all I asked was:

a] does anyone wear one
b] does it ease aches and pains

I'm not too bothered on facts of how it works nor studies on it. Just wanted simple answers really eg. yes I wear one and it works.......yes I wear one and it doesnt work.

<V45DSM>: Thats pretty specious reasoning.
<WALWAL>: Why thanks.
<V45DSM>: By your reasoning this rock I hold in my hand keeps Tigers away.
<WALWAL>: How does that work.
<V45DSM>: We'll I don't see any tigers, do you?
<WALWAL>: V45.....I would like to buy your rock.

I've also got some magic beans if you want them.

Again innacurate, I answered Reds original question before you posted, your first post was neither informative or helpful to her request.

Isn't Nacro enough for you?

Spoon,

Redkop has made it abundantly clear that no further input is required from us with regard to this thread.

I suggest that if you wish to debate the facts surrounding placebo effect we take it to another thread - I am still willing to accomodate. Bear in mind, however, that you will need to actually tell me which facts pertinent to the subject in hand you disagree with...

Either way I am done in this particular thread.
