Default extending the congestion charge zone

Exactly what is the point?

Got a leaflet today....does not affect me as am just outside the "proposed" extension area.
How long before they want to extend it a third and a fourth time and who knows, the entire London area is congestion charged before we can blink.

Looks like yet another stealthy tax!
Says in the leaflet that if you live in the "proposed" extension and are a resident you get a 90% discount, so £2.50 a week or 50pence a day......£130 a year......near the same as your road tax!!
Ok a question......not sure if it is the same cost to residents in the existing cc zone but assuming it is. Does it mean if u be a resident in either the existing or proposed ccz you will for your 50p be able to drive freely in the entire ccz (old and new) or of you cross from old to new or new to old (depending which part you already live in) will you have to pay the full £5.00 or at least top-up £4.50 for that day?
Thing is if you can drive freely in all ccz's as a 50p paying resident, what is to say if there were to be more future extensions this would just be defeating the object............for example- if eventually a chunk of the capital became a ccz then all the 50p paying residents would be all driving round freely instead of getting public transport, thus creating the original congestion problem, and well done Ken, u got us all to pay £130 a year to do so.

thanx for reading my rant, please post your oppinion

I am against any form of congestion charge - never mind extending them

However, maybe Ken won't have any say in such plans, as Crapita are not making as much profit as they originally hoped, so may not be keen to get more deeply involved! Unless, of course, they are allowed to increase the charge

Unhappy

From one of the recent topics in the forum...

Here it is then, details of how London First managed to find a majority of businesses in favour of the congestion charge in their recent poll:

Q: What is the nature of your company’s business?

Professional service i.e. accountancy, law - 39.2%
Other - 14.8%
Property development/Investment - 13.6%
Publishing/Not-for-profit organisation - 6.2%
Banking or financial intermediary - 5.0%
Creative Industries - 4.2%
Transport - 3.2%
Property management - 2.6%
Associations/councils - 2.2%
Media - 1.8%
Retail/wholesale - 1.6%
Hotels/restaurants - 1.4%
Manufacturing - 1.4%
Leisure - 1.2%
Entertainment - 1.2%
Pharmaceutical - 0.4%
Total - 100.0%

SO THAT'S A GRAND TOTAL OF 5.4% OF RETAILERS, ENTERTAINMENT AND LEISURE BUSINESSES, HOTELS AND RESTAURANTS POLLED FOR THIS SURVEY!

AND THERE'S MORE:

Q: Is your business located within the congestion charging zone?
Yes - 75.6%
No - 23.6%
Don’t know - 0.8%
Total - 100.0%

SO ONLY THREE QUARTERS OF THE BUSINESSES POLLED WERE EVEN IN THE ZONE!

It seems then that London First are quite happy for the large law and accountancy firms in London to have the streets cleared for their executive limousines, and never mind the impact on retailers or entertainment industry!

Representative survey my ar$e.

I'd rather they exteded the London zone than introduce congestion charging anywhere else in the country!
