Any photoshop experts?

need some help, ive got an image I need to effectivly 'trace' to get a vector line art for vinyl printing

I am having a nightmare being a mere complete novice

any help would be appreciated

Not 100%, mainly as I don't do any vector stuff. But if the graphic in question is two colour (or similar), you could create a selection using magic wand or color select. Once you have a good selection you should be able to convert *mumble* that to a *cough* path. You will then be able to Export the path into a *mumble* vector format, like an Illustrator *.ai file.

Not sure though.

thats the sort of thing I have been trying, basically using the trace contours, to try and get a reasonable image so I can use it in Corel Trace to get a decent vector

The problem I have is that Corel Trace puts far too many points in, and the end result never turns out smooth enough for an accurate vinyl cutter

I have printed the image out, traced it by hand, scanned it in, but I still cant get a decent end result

I do have the same sort of image already as an EPS file, but I cant seem to alter this enough for what I need it to be

I was cr@p at art, and even worse on a PC

If you place the image in Illustrator and set the opacity to 10% you can then trace over it easily. When you've got the vector image you want, delete the pic.

 

hmm, opening the file in illustrator doesnt do a lot, most of the menus are grayed out

I did sort of manage to get the trace thing sort of working, but it wont let me 'move' any of the points

 

Don't open the file in Illustrator. Open a new document and place the image on the artboard. Double click the layer and select dim image (Illus.7). Now use pen tool to draw your paths. When you have the vector you require, delete the image and save.
