ScoobyNet (named after "Scooby Doo", the nickname for Subaru) started in 1998 as the web presence of the Subaru Impreza Driver's Club. The traffic to the site escalated to a point where it was no longer something that could be run on the side whenever time allowed, so Phil Daws (the original webmaster) took it on as a completely separate service.

Hits escalated from nothing to around 1.1 million per month (a substantial achievement for what was basically a "hobby site") in 2000 at which point it required too much time and financial commitment for Phil to run, was sold to Simon de Banke and become ScoobyNet Ltd in around October 2000.

Throughout the remainder of 2000 and the beginning of 2001, stats began to rise again after extreme focus was put on "the community". The most ingrained concept of the ScoobyNet model is that everything that is decided puts the community first. All decisions on policy and procedures are challenged by the question "does this benefit the community?".

In 2001, Simon de Banke set the Guinness World Record for driving sideways at 2 hours 11 minutes and 18 seconds, flying the ScoobyNet colours on National Television and bringing the first world title to the (at the time) new shape Subaru Impreza WRX. This again saw the traffic soar.

Since November 2000, each month ScoobyNet has signed up more new members than it did the month previous. Every month (apart from December during the xmas period) ScoobyNet increases it's traffic by a greater amount that it increased the month previous. Numerous market leaders have either launched their companies or seen them go from obscurity to substantial success through association with ScoobyNet. The great power of the ScoobyNet community is it's collective ability to assess and recognise excellence in vendors and support those who do a good job.
