does anyone know if all (or nearly all) electrical type products have 1 years manufacturers guarantee? i bought a bt/sagem cordless telephone thing 11 months ago, and one of the handsets has stopped working. i don't have any of the manufacturers handbook or anything, but i've managed to find the receipt from comet. is it likely that they will fix or replace it if i take it back?

Think you're actually covered for five under the consumer protection act Charlie, fit for purpose and all that, bit hard to enforce that one though, but you'll deffo be covered for the 1 from the seller, nowt to do with the manufacturer yet.
edited to say all imho of course

Without packaging you may have to settle for a repair or replacement, not a refund.

cheers - looks like i should be ok then. i don't want a refund, i just want a 2nd handset that works so i don't have to run up 3 flights of stairs to tell my bro that someone is on the phone for him. i am tempted just to say "try his mobile" but maybe that's a bit rude and/or lazy.
i am pretty sure that *does not work at all* will be adequate in terms of "not conforming to contract".

i've just took a tv back to asda, no hassle i just swapped for another one which now has another 3 years with it, no extra to pay
all their stuff is guarenteed for 3 years, this christmas i bought all electrical presents for relatives from asda, the freeview box i got my brother was cheaper than elsewhere and had the 3 years so i don't think you can go wrong
i have no whats the word to asda
