Hi all
For the last week I've had my old digital SLR advertised on eBay. I set a 'buy it now' price, and this afternoon, someone took it up.
Unfortunately, that person wants me to ship the camera to Nigeria, and wants me to accept payment with a credit card that's registered to a different person in the USA. I'm not sure I can think of a more blatant scam.
Unforunately, because the scammer used 'buy it now', I can't cancel the bid - the auction is over as far as eBay is concerned. All I have is an email containing an address in Nigeria and the number of a stolen credit card.
For what it's worth, my auction very clearly stated that I only take cash or a cheque, and that I only ship to the UK. I did reply, pointing this out and demanding both a UK address and payment by an acceptable mechanism within 48 hours - as a formality, really, so that I can simply report them to eBay as a non-paying bidder. I should at least get a credit for my final value fee in this case.
Any suggestions for further action please? I'd like to report the c/c number at least to help ensure it gets cancelled, but where?
I'd also like to re-list my camera with a 'buy it now', but is there any way to stop the same thing happening again with some other joker?
Failing that, anyone want to buy a Canon D30, fairly well used but recently serviced and in good condition? Cash or cheque please, Nigerian residents need not apply...

I would contact ebay asap, I have a feeling that they will re list for free as none of what has happened is your fault.
I have had a similar issue and they were very helpful but sometimes they are not the quickest at responding.
I would send a box full of flour or talcum powder, they scaming t&&t would crap himself
Good luck

You're bullet proof mate, just do ABSOLUTELEY nothing about it and relist the camera.
Let him try and kick up a fuss, the worst he can do is leave a neagative feedback, I would have thought ebay would be interested in this anyway, and delete the negative feedback .... if it even came about.
I had a similar thing a while back, although I was the buyer, and won an auction off some half-wit that was trying to pull a flanker, I don't know if he was nigerian though
He said he was working away ( all email ) and the goods were at the couriers waiting to be dispatched, all I had to do was send the cheque...blah blah blah...when I requested his user&contact details nothing matched up, I even rang the house and they had never heard of him or even ebay!
Sit on it and do nothing, report him though if you can, areseholes like that are spoiling ut for the genuine traders.

That's the one FP - I found it anyway. In fact it's the same page I used a couple of days ago when somebody emailed me asking to buy the same camera for £750, again by credit card. The 'buy it now' price was only £550.
Just how stupid are some people???

I can't find a way to contact Ebay. I've looked. How do you do it?
A while ago i changed my cc number and tried to inform them.Could i bo0ll0cks find out how.
I just waited for them to demand payment and told them then.
They dont make it easy though.

Nice thought - but, of course, that would make me a crook too. I just don't need the hassle.
I guess there's nothing I can do to prevent the same thing happening again, but this guy has only bid on 3 auctions and I've reported him to eBay anyway. Fingers crossed.
Funnily enough, I did actually get a reply which made me laugh:

Edited to say I've found the original auction. I'll pass the details on.
