George Best held over 'assault'
Former footballer George Best has been held by police for 10 hours in connection with an alleged assault.
Best, 57, was arrested at 0200 GMT on Friday in relation to an allegation of assault in Reigate, Surrey.
He was released without charge at midday and police said no accusations were being pursued by "any party".
The Manchester United legend, who has had a lifesaving liver transplant, used to live in Reigate with his recently estranged wife Alex.
Public binges
She announced the marriage split in September after he continued going on drinking binges despite being told they could kill him.
At the time, the 31-year-old said in a statement: "I have always supported George and always will, but for the present we will be living separate lives."
Best was arrested in July after drinking in a local pub for several hours.
He was later released without charge.
A Surrey Police spokeswoman said on Friday: "A 57-year-old male from Walton on the Hill was arrested on 26 December at approximately 0200 GMT in Reigate, in relation to an allegation of assault.
"The male was later released without charge at around midday.
Will he ever learn.

After the last 6 months I doubt many would want his liver.
Shame though ,as it is an illness after all which I dont think many appreciate.

He has always been a self destructive person, but to behave as he does when someone else could have been given a decent chance with that liver transplant is beyond the pale!

I wish he'd just keel over and get it done with. Its what he wants anyway, must be. I also wish I'd had the chance to meeet his GF and that she'd fancied me rather than that jackied up lookin old prune. I wouldnt be slapping her about and treating her like **** just cos I used to kick a ball about years ago.

The guy is a waste of space,he's had a second chance at life with a new liver and getting on his feet with a nice wife and doing some t.v work.
He then blows it all the tw*t,pity they didn't give the liver to someone who would appreciate it

It was self-inflicted. Even after the transplant he's poured it down its neck. There have been cases where people have been refused liver transplants after failed suicide attempts. Even a teenage girl was refused after a bad reaction to ecstasy - she died.
So why the **** was he granted one? I wonder...
