Amsterdam will be bloody freezing m8. I prefer Amsterdam when its a bit warmer as its a city that really encourages seeing the sights by foot/bike. Gotta be Barcelona if your not desperately interested in coffee shops

At that time of year - got to be Barcelona.

I spent hogmanay in 1998 with the Mrs in Barcelona - fantastic place. It was warm enough to sit out supping Cava before hitting the Plaza Catalunya for the bells and then the clubs after that.

Amsterdam is good - but go when its a bit warmer

Sod the weather, I'm sure they put the heating on in the coffee shops!! Leave the Missus behind and go with your mates, so you can venture into the "Other" well known parts of the Dam..

Well I'm sure the gf is up for those 'areas' too - and as its a crimbo pressie I think she'd be a bit pissed if I left her at home.

Stay in the area just east of Las Ramblas. Loads of great bars and restaurants. See Sagradia Familia (Cathedral), Park Guell, shopping up from Place de Catalunya, cable car ride to the Olympic Stadium... plenty to do

Thanks for everyones replies - however gleaned from the gf that she would prefer Amsterdam so have booked 4 nights at the Crowne Plaza The Amercian 5* through expedia and easyjet flights - all for £400!! B A R G A I N

Wonderful city. Easy to get around as well with the tube.
Amsterdam is great as well but will be cold & anyway, you wanna go there with your mates not the gf
