Nutter on the train - would you have seen red mist too?

Great start to the day, there are some absolute loonies out there.
I was sitting on the train and this bloke comes to sit down next to me and goes to put the arm rest down between the two seats. I tell him thats not really going to work for me as its too tight a space for me due to me being bigger than the average punter and the fact the seat spacings are tiny. However instead of him saying ok he grabs hold of me me and tries to slam the arm rest down while trying to pull/push me out the way
I asked him what the **** does he think hes doing and to get his hands off me and he just carried on doing it. So I lost my anger somewhat and saw severe red mist and was going to give him a good pasting to be perfectly honest. (I saw it that he was assaulting me and I was going to have a go back, although obviously now I realise that would have been a very bad move.) The lady opposite jumped in between me and the other bloke cos she could see what I was about to do and told him to go and sit in her seat and for me to calm down and thats its too early in the moring for trouble. The bloke then started mumbling abuse and provoking me. Anyway having realised the whole carriage had gone deadily silent and was watching me about to hit the nutter I decided to sit down and shut my eyes and ignore him until London and then put him straight on a few things.
Thankfully the lady saved me from an assault charge and when we got to London she didn't let me out my seat till the bloke had gone. I thought I had over reacted for a while but then she told me what a tosser the bloke is and that she wasn't going to let me get myself in deep trouble over a complete tosser like him. I did apologise to her for my language and the fact she had to get involved and for what I was gonna do to him and again she was very kind and said she just didnt want me doing something I would have regretted later and got in trouble with the police for. If it wasnt for her kindness i'd be at a police station now
On top of this when I got to work some bloke in the lift goes you had an eventful morning. I said you were on the train then? He was and he told how this bloke is a total w@nker and is always doing things like this. He has seen him several times have a go at passengers and even train staff. He told me he is some mad accountant or something and that he is a known trouble maker on the train and he said it was lucky that lady stepped in when she did because what the bloke was doing to me deserved a reaction.
The thing is he was all suited and booted like anyone else and you would never have guesses he was a nutter by looking at him. It made me feel bad because I thought I was in the wrong but now at least I know it wasn't me who caused the situation.
At the time I wanted to give the bloke a right thumping because of his actions towards me. How would you have reacted?
Also him grabbing me and pushing/pulling me to me was assault. Legally could I have claimed if I had hit him that it was in self defence?
To add I am not a violent person and have never assaulted anyone before or been in trouble with the police and am not some thug. Today however that could all of changed due to a total tw@t

Given that he has a 'reputation', if you had done something I guess the police would have 'understood'. However if the guy wanted to press charges then they have to follow it up.
He sounds like a right ar$shole though. What train route was it?

I would now book a day of work, drive over to the station he gets on at, wait for him to turn up for his train and then punch the ****** as hard as you can in the nose.
With the winter months fast approaching it will be nice and dark in the morning and no-one will think anything of you for wearing a scarf or balaclarva on your head
B2Z, my blood was starting to boil just reading your thread. I'm sure just launching the ****** into next week will make you feel much better mate

I've been in situations like this before Bravo and I'm sure you're more mad about yourself cos you never popped him one. Behaving correctly in society asks a lot of us sometimes
If I had a go at everyone I'd like to on trains I'd be serving life atm

Just another thought.......
Fill a Lucozade bottle full of P1ss. When he comes and does the same thing, pour the p1ss all over him (ooops! it spilt).
It wont smell for a while but when he gets to work he'll stink like the ****** he is

Tunbridge Wells line. Basically the blokes attitude was that he will have his own way and if you try and stop him he will man handle you out the way
P!sses me off that he got away with it although he got plenty of aggression from me but at the same time I am not in trouble with the police. Just hope I don't meet him again on the train.

should have called for a train attendant to notify the police to meet them at the next available stop and have him arrested for aggrevated assault

Bravo2zero - Great read mate, glad you had your cool kept for you!
The thing with nutters is you don't know how nuts they are - you punch him in the head and he pulls out a blade.
So glad I don't commute into town any more

If I recall, that's common assault on you by him. Next time you see him, tell him you are pressing charges for common assault. Hopefully that'll calm him down in future.
However instead of him saying ok he grabs hold of me me and tries to slam the arm rest down while trying to pull/push me out the way

Thats well rude, i'm sooo glad I do not have to ride the train / underground anymore.
Pubic transport is always full of rude *******, like the ones who sit next to you and 'spread out' invading your space, I hate it
Personally, I think you did the right thing, I would have wanted to chin the ****** as well.

I get that train quite alot, and I haven't seen him. I think you were lucky that the woman calmed you down, as assaulting him is something you would regret.
The train is usually full of city lawyers, so I'm surprised you haven't been approached by several of them to press charges!
Steve.

I wish I could but I havent got a clue who she is and its not my normal train as all the trains were messed up this morning. I was on such an adrenaline high with anger that I wouldn't be able to recognise her if I saw her again
I owe her a lot really as she saved me from a lot of trouble and also her words after the bloke had left the train made me calm down. Chololates or flowers would have been the least I could have done. I was so late for work that I rushed off the train this morning after talking to her and didn't think about it.

Steve it was the 7.36 to Cannon Street and it was in the 4 coaches that pull in early waiting for the rest from Hastings. I was in the 4th carriage and knowing how that lot like to keep their same seats it probably might not be too difficult to find him again.
Thing is although I thought it was assault its only assault by terminology, i'd have felt a right wimp claiming oi you assaulted me for just what he did, thats why I wanted to plant one on him to get him off me. Its the smug look on his face that got my back up as well cos he sat diagonally opposite me and made a thing about putting the arm rest down and putting his elbows on it. Could have ripped the bloody arm rest off and shoved it down his throat the smug tw@t
By the time I am on the same shift again it would be me who would be the trouble maker if I went up to him and said anything so probably he will continue to get away with this sort of thing. Hope someone does plant one on him one day though and the rest of the carriage say it was in self defence

Bravo was this fella about 5 10 ish, fairly wiry looking, greying with some hair loss?
I ask becuase I had a similar situation with a guy on the same train a while ago. He tried to close a door I was being forced to stand next to and then had a fit and tried to shove me out of the way when it was obvious there was nowhere for me to go. It was only a group of other passengers who pulled us apart that meant both of us didn't end up in the cells that morning. I wonder if it's the same a55hole.
If I ever see the guy and I'm not on my way to job interview I'll make sure he gets his.

Commuters seem to follow a crowd mentality when they're on their way to and from work, it's quite bizarre. I once asked a guy at Liverpool Street who was blocking everyone's way if he couldn't wait for his train to be announced on the councourse instead of standing right in the middle of where everyone was trying to pass. He turned around and started shouting at me, walked up to me then started pushing me aggressively up the platform telling me to call the police and calling me the c-word. I'm only 5'9", this guy was 6'4", all suited up, didn't look like the kind to turn like that. What really goes through peoples minds?
This is the last job I'll have working in central London, I'm sick of the commute, WAGN, extortionate train prices and wasting 15 hours of my life a week doing nothing!

Yep sounds like him, balding down the middle with glasses and a very smug looking w@nker probably in early to mid 40's.
LOL time to get the same train I think and see if he remembers both of us and then shove his head out the window and close the window

Well I'll be damned- probably the same guy. Sounds exactly the same- he wasn't wearing a "city" shirt as well was he?
It was a one off trip for me I doubt I'll see the ****** again which I suppose is a good thing. My incident was almost 1 yr ago on the same train so it seems that this guy has been getting away with this for a long time. Reading this has made me v.angry, wish I'd given him a good kicking now and sodded the job- it was a crap one in the end anyway.

They get away with it, thats why they do it..... One day someone will give the ****** the beating of his life, a lesson will be learnt and he will not do it again.
You were right not to be the one to teach him that lesson though, not worth getting a record over scumbags like this.
Then again, if I were in the same situation I'd have busted his nose to prove a point

I'm still laughing at the fight club thing I can just imagine him being like that cos i'd be only too happy to beat the living **** out of him all day
The satisfying thing is that he is obviously well known on the train for being a complete tw@t, I thought at first everyone was gonna blame me for getting lairy and being very loud but he can sit their as smug as he likes because everyone was actually thinking what a total w@nker he is.
