Question

I need to get one of these - British Gas charge £100 for a quick check.

Is there a better alternative?

Also need tennant insurance - they are students - any recommendations on good brokers?

Cheers!

Most Corgi registered plumbers can do one. Look in Yellow Pages

Luke, I'm trying to get a good price rather than being foolish.

Of course, it all has to be officially certificated etc. (hence 'Landlord's Certificate/Insurance').

Given the massive price fluctuations in just about everything these days, I thought I'd tap into the power of scoobynet! It's much like posting in the insurance forum.

there is NO guarantee that a British gas engineer will do a better job than a Corgi plumber with a good reputation

Just remember to make sure the Gorgi plumber is registered and has paid this years membership...... many many are bogus members or are no longer paying membership.

Yes,most corgi reg installers will do one for around £40.
that checks everything eg,soundness test, flue flow/pull test, gas fires/appliances working pressures and overall condition of appliances.cookers, hobs etc etc.
It makes sure everything is installed as it should be and that all appliances are safe to use.

SN(corgi reg)

Liv Vic do landlord insurance, i use them and find them cheaper than anyone but you have to have your own home insured through them.

What if you have your car insured through them? I use L&V!

PS - does your name reflect your registration?

A "Landlords Gas Safety Cert" in our part of the country will cost you around £45 to £65 and MUST be done by a Corgi registered plumber. No other plumber should even offer you this service and by law you must have valid certificate which is renewable every 12 months.

If you are looking for insurance, there are two main companies in the UK that specialise in this. One is called "Homelet" and the other is "Letsure"

If you are interested I will get the telephone numbers for you to call when I am at work tomorrow.

Thanks Chris - Interesting to note that British Gas pre-billed me £92 for the gas safety cert, unless I wanted to opt out. And I did.

If you could provide those numbers, that'd be of great help.

Cheers!
