Cool

Looking for ideas for a european ski resort where a number of young and old non-skiing people can spend the week without getting bored out of their heads? Good swimmingpools, gym, kiddy snow park..etc etc
Most of my skiing has been confined to the 3 Vallys based in Val Thorens which is very unsuitable (though great skiing )
Any help appreciated,
Chuckles

Livigno - Italy, lots of shops(tax free), big park with things going on. If your into walking, i beleive they do some organised trips. Cinema.

I have been there 3 times, skiing, very enjoyable.

Morzine is pretty good. Unlike most French resorts it's actually quite a pretty town - not concrete high rise rubbish. There is an ice rink, I think there is a pool, plenty of shops. Is close enough to Geneva for a day trip if necessary. Best of all (for you) the skiing is superb.

Levi in Finland is a bit different. The Skiing is bit limited but okay for a week. Other things to do include Snowmobile trekking, Reindeer rides, Dog sledding, visiting Santa plus the main hotel, Levitenturi, has a large leisure complex including pool etc.

Transfer from the airport is 20 mins, food is great and you can tell the folks back home you went to Lapland which is in the Arctic circle. We went last year as a family and found it very different to the Alpine experience...recommended

I'll second Morzine, or there's always Chamonix, though the skiing's a bit useless there unless you want to head up to Argentiere.

Sierra Nevada - ski at high altitude then sun and sea at the beach a couple of hours away. Grenada well woth visiting.

Or....
Forte Hotel, Aviemore. Send the skiers off up the hill, pack the kids into the nursery and BIG play centre then hire a taxi and tour the distilleries. ) Hic

Finland is a good idea - alternatively you could try Meribel as they have ice skating, a pool etc.

Swiss resorts like Verbier have alot more than just skiing. They are pretty places, have pools etc and also have alot of people who are non-skiers. Its places like Courchevel, Tignes and Val Thorens that are purpose built and have little else than skiing.

Livigno for the reasons stated above. a Big Town centre (for a ski resort) free bus service, tax free like Andora and the food is excellent and cheap (fillet steaks are a local speciality).
I was there 2 years ago and I would go back as a 1st choice. very good if you like electrical goods/watches etc also.
