Front page news in the local rag LOL
Welding/cutting gear - cameras now missing.
Local coppiceman said "no matter how many get destroyed we will replace them immediately" - dumbass - earlier in the artical it said one camera was nicked three weeks ago
Coppiceman also said "we have more money than the people destroying them" - is this confirmation that they where revenue cameras ??

they're all on dual carriageways with nothing but fields either side and no side roads.... always just round a corner though.... such a sensible place to put them.

Isn't it funny how it would be oh so easy to put GATSOs outside schools, hospitals, colleges, old folks homes etc...yet they never do.
There's nothing wrong (IMHO) with a bit of speed enforcement in areas like this, after all if there are kids running around etc there's an arguement that 30mph is too fast.
Funnily enough though, the Gatsos very rarely placed there, as fast stretches of dual carriageway with inappropropriate 50mph limits seem more important to Plod. I guess most people wouldn't mind cameras if they were ONLY in a few appropriate locations.
Captain Gatso deserves a medal.

I think it's about time that a national review was held about speed cameras, detailing which cameras were actually catching people speeding.
Afterall, if the camera is catching people speeding, then it is not doing its job properly. They are there to prevent speeding, thus reducing the chances of accidents from excess speed.
In cases where the cameras are not working, then they could be assisted by the flashing "SLOW DOWN" signs, which from all reports I've read, are far more effective at reducing the average speed of traffic at the location.
As for coppers sitting in the back of vans catching decent people doing 1 mph over the limit... well that would be acceptable if the same level of Police resources was also applied to monitoring streets at night, preventing proper crimes.
I was appalled to see that some idiots in Wednesbury (sp?) have been throwing lighted paper into charity shops, causing extensive damage. Current arguments are between Shop owners and the Council as to who should be handling the prevention of this.
If the Old Bill had more officers walking the Beat, then this sort of behaviour would be reduced dramatically.

He said the police had numerous ways of catching the culprits including, among other methods, the use of CCTV cameras.
A Milton Keynes Council spokesman said the attacks were 'worrying'.

My run to/from work is littered with GATSOs (as is most of the Staffordshire).
Three sit on a busy road (A34) covering two Primary Schools in a 30 limit - blimey, a good location
Another one covers a secondary school on a fairly busy road which is 40. One further up is in front of a busy shop / road junction area.

Oh I just have to make fun of it:
And what a good job they have been doing catching them too!!! NOT!
Hmmmmm yes... and I wonder where all that money came from!
Oh of course!!! Targetting innocent motorists who pose such a big threat to the safety of our country, and not fogetting to MAKE ******* MONEY!!!
Yes I'm sure a speed camera on a straight bit of dual carriage way out in the middle of no where with a rediculous speed limit of 40mph is really going to do the trick! Hell, why don't we just have them all set to 5mph, I'm sure that will solve the problem!
Oh yes, better make it a priority, nevermind the old ladies being mugged on the corners, just think of all that revenue your loosing while the camera is down.....
Buncha friggin useless monkeys!
EK
These people are mindless morons who will be caught
We've got more money than them and if they damage the speed cameras we will replace them immediately
The speed cameras are there for a reason
It could clearly have an impact on road safety and therefore accidents
We are looking urgently into how quickly we can get them replaced

We need someone who is Rich to put a bounty on speed camera's such as "deliver the head of a speed camera and recieve your £1000 bounty"
You would have folk chopping them down left right and centre!
I still reckon the guy that blew one up deserves a medal!

As we all know speed cameras suck bigtime, also anyone who's driven in Portugal will know they have an elegant solution to slowing speeding drivers.
If you exceed the speed limit coming into a built up area this triggers a red light further on. This brings the driver to a halt (in the UK this could be enforced using cameras). The errant driver then has to sit at the red lights for a period of time before getting on with his journey. In Portugal this has the effect of slowing everyone down and if they don't they get to sit at the lights for a while and save no time whatsoever. When there is no percentage in speeding people tend not to bother.
This is about the only good thing about driving in Portugal however!

But a Gatso placed in a 30, near a school will stail nail you, at 2am for doing 36mph, when the road is completely empty.
In a lot of cases, during school, the roads would be very busy anyway, so speeding may not be so much of a problem.
Not all cases, but some Im sure.
