worst thing about it, is that iv just started a new job 3 weeks ago and i need to drive through that area. Oh yeah and im designing speed cameras .
B4 people start taking the p1ss and going mad. we design them we DO NOT put them up and pocket the money from people speeding.
Ray. well got to look at the funny side. I cant

I was in Wales the other week and I did not see one speed camera or camera van, even though there were plenty of signs for them. I did incidentially see a camera van on a dead M50, which seemed a bit of a joke.
Anyway, to the point. In many on the villages I passed through on my travels, I noticed they had warning signs advising you were approaching a 30 limit, basically these were black and white, as apposed to red and white signs.
This seemed to me a more sensible way of warning people, rather than the sudden speed restrictions.

I got caught doing 35 in 30 limit i was offered the speed awareness course. You pay £75 rather than the £60 fine and go on a half day course, but you don't receive the points. It depends if they do this in your area.

Anyone know which areas do these courses? Just got NIP for 41 in 30 in Horsham area (West Sussex). Happy to pay extra if it avoids points. Thanks D

i got speeding the other day and got away with it but thats another story.when talking to a copper in the station he told me all about the speed limits everyone knows you get 10% of the limit but he also said add 2mph cause its all to do with your speedo and there speed guns so you should argue your case cause that come from a copper.

Tee hee. Sorry Ray, but you can't help but laugh at the irony of a speed camera designer being hoist on his own petard.
Anyway, that out of the way, you're right, 35mph is taking the pee, and, AFAIAA, it's beneath the ACPO policy for camera prosecutions, which is, again AFAIAA, 10% of the speed limit +3mph - in other words 36 in a 30.
In addition to the previously mentioned tricks regarding not signing the NIP and getting someone else to fill it in, you should the police to produce the calibration certificate for the camera concerned on the day of the alleged offence, and also ask for a copy of the video footage for independent analysis.
It's so close to the bone, that you may also find it worthwhile to ask for the camera to be examined by an expert. If the Feds can't produce the calibration certificate or the video, you're off the hook, and if you make enough of a fuss of verifying it, you may find they'd prefer to just drop it.
