As I understand it we have GPS fixed camera detectors and laser dectors and laser jammers. With all of these bolted on to you car you are able to avoid almost all detection devices. However, you can still miss the unmarked car that is using vascar (sp?) to check your speed. Now a SPECS camera can read a number plate right? I presume there is some software that looks at each "frame" and works out what the number plates are. If this is so, would it be possible to mount a rear facing camera on your car that could read the number plate of the car behind you and check it against a known list of police cars, unmarked or other wise. This list of registrations could be updated from the net etc to keep it current on your machine.
Does this sound like a stupid idea or might it just work?

Hello

I always thought that you must be able to measure the output from a police radio to detect the close proximity of a Police Car?

If it's true, another opportunity wasted!

Steve.

I had thought of that, the only problem would be if they had been following you for long enough evidence wise before they used the radio. If we also mounted a front facing camera you would know whether or not to over take certain suspect cars.

It certainly is possible. The police do just this now. They have a camera in the car that checks every number plate it sees against a list of "target" cars. I.e. it pop-up a warning if a car known to be stolen is "seen". The system is totally automatic, it requires no work on the part of the police in the car.

So, in theory you could build the same system but have a list of known police regos.

Cheers

Ian

There is a verging on the notorious, man in Amsterdam who sells laptops fitted with a GPS system that tells you where all the police cars are. Its works only in the UK not holland as far as I know.

Do all police cars emit broadband Rf radiation all of the time, or only when they are using certain pieces of equipment?
