Question

To cut a long story short my employer owes me arond £300 for unpaid overtime,...whats the best way to recover this..small claims court?.

My only worry is taking your current employer to court is not a great career move, but sometimes you have to stand up for yourself.

Comments please...

Paul..

Is the copany a LTD. or PLC?

If you take a LTD Co. to court for unpaid invoices/wages you can get a winding up order from the court.

If you mention this most companies tend to back down if the debt is genuine

Unhappy

Tell me about it

My wife did 30hrs extra hours in January (she's a tax manager, so busy doing tax returns)

To this day she's not had one penny from her employer, despite emails and direct asking he just says he'll sort it out.

It's a small company so kinda makes things difficult. I'm getting to the point where I want to have a word with him

Not on is it?

Cool

I had problems with my client regularly failing to pay invoices on time. In the end, I submitted a bill for interest owed on the late invoices, and despite the amount only being small, it caused a lot of people to wake up quickly, and the matter was resolved fairly soon.

Check out http://www.payontime.co.uk for info on the statutory rules for late payment, and the interest you can charge.

Mega Stream......in a small company it is difficult.I've only got one real concern.......obtaining a decent reference when i leave, this may put that at risk.

Casually mention that a bankruptcy order can be granted for debts as low as £250...
