Gatsos' are under attack everywhere...

3 near me again... almost every other month.
Around this way there is a group of 'bad lads' who have found a very acidic paint spray... this clouds the lens as well as blackening it...
The other trick these naughty naughty boys perform is to use 'Galvafroid' on the detectors lens... rendering the machine in-operable...
'Apparently' they have the cans on a pole and can perform this naughty naughty trick in just 10 seconds flat...
The lenses cost only a few quid so don't burden me with large costs but the lenses are on back order so the 'CAMERAS' are out of commission for 5/6 weeks...
Bad boys.
So to re-cap that is 'Galvafroid' for the Sender lens [£7.50] and Allinsons Black Glass Etch [£11.95] for the photo lens.
I think I can speak for 'ALL' here on the Scoobynet, this is a terrible thing to do, as, if we go 1mph faster than our limits say then we deserve to have our licence removed and our livelihoods put in jeopardy.
Amen, worship the creed not the message.

Where can these items be purchased?
I feel I should buy as much as possible so that there is no stock left available for these terrible crimes against such important safety cameras.

I know exactly how you feel... if only everyone was as public spirited as you brother... any good steel fabricator will happily sell you his stock, knowing that it will be in safe hands and any good stained glass workshop should carry lots of this terrible temptation

Hhhhhhhhhhmmmm i feel i should also purchase as much of this terrible stuff as possible and make sure it stays in the right, honest hands.
The nice lads who drive 'moddified' escorts and novas who hang around the local town centre car park seem like a good public spirited bunch, they'll surely not let it fall into the wrong hands

It's terrible isn't it!
Wanton vandalism, everyone knows that these cameras are here to protect us all and make our roads safer...
I have never seen a single camera placed anywhere but in an accident black spot...
I think we should show just how much we appreciate these wonderful 'Guardians of the Road'
I can tell you that I will definitely be moved to show my appreciation in the coming months.

Cool thread. We must of course come down heavily on such wanton acts of mindless vandalism. Its terrible that such materials can be aquired reasonably easily.
Galvafroid is quite nasty stuff as well if i recall - its basically a cold galvanising agent. Not the sort of stuff anyone would want to spilling on ones self when making sure it didn't fall into the wrong hands.

I was shocked to see someone had knocked a speed camera over the other day, mindless acts of violence like this should not be condoned.
I understand underseal works quite well as it has grit type particals that could potentially scratch surfaces such as glass. It is also a bugger to remove.
Bear in mind tho' if they cannot stealth tax us this way they will surely find another, how else are the government gonna get in the revinue to pay for thier bad management and ****-ups?

Mycroft,
Thanks for bringing this to my attention
The A14 M11->A43 bit in cambridgshire seemed to have a number of EX gatsos, no idea if they have been removed or ripped out. One was about 4 ft behind a big sign, what a shame.

Also noticed these money trees have been subjected to chainsaws or similar, have seen several where there is a very unevenly cut and rough edged stump left in the ground and no sign of the camera
Sounds great fun to me, I'm off out to get one, then once Im finished with the cameras I can use it on the traffic wardens

I HATE that Gatso on the A3 South just after the Roehampton turning. It is cunningly placed where 3 lanes go into two and helps prevent you adjusting your speed and kills any chance of safely nipping in with a deft touch of flat flour throttle or V twin Desmodromic burble...
However I do also applaud this camera as this is exactly the spot where I risk turning into a road criminal by the deft application of +8mph, and therefore turning me into a plain old public menace and lawbreaker. Far better to be slowed down, bunched up and bumper to bumper and retain ones law-abiding integrity; this clearly also helps secure the safety of the MILLIONS of milling pedestrians, shoppers, students and schoolkids that are clustered around this part of the A3

I have just checked the COSHH pages for Galvafroid and although it is indeed listed but is not of special concern and is to be used only in the open air, no worries there then.
That is a relief, because for some time this morning I was worried about the health of the individuals performing this heinous crime against us, the 'concerned' safe motorist.
BTW I think you will find that the device used nowadays by the 'accomplished' criminal element is a 6foot bar with a compression wheel type G-clamp these devices apparently will cause even motorway lamp posts to topple, once one side of the post (tube) is pressed in the gatso falls on to the floor or points harmlessly in the air... aren't these guys inventive!!" Incorridgeable but very very inventive!
Apparently it cost just £50 to get a friendly blacksmith to make such a device... shocking...
Do not Email me in a couple of days for the design as I will, of course, refuse to send you the CAD drawings for such a terrible device! The maxim being 'A refusal often offends'.
I am so pleased to see so much public spirit on here... makes me proud to be British.
