There is a possibility that I could be gaining employment in the above mentioned Village.

What is the climate like?
What is the rate of Tax?
What are salaries like for IT people?
What are house prices like to either buy or rent?
is there a national health service or do you need to have private insurance?
Same for Dental services?
As a Brit do we need VISAs or not? if so how hard are they to get?
What are car prices like? ie STi6?
What is the social life like? ie bars, pubs, land based sports.
What is the food like in comparison to the UK? can you get curries, pie and chips, kebabs junk food etc

any other inf that you could give me that I have missed off would be appreciated.

Bloody hell Steve, did I give you itchy feet I looked at this last year and it looks very nice. Salaries and housing appear to be correspondingly lower than the UK. I think there is a site where you can enter your personal details and you get a points score and it gives an indication of how easy or difficult it would be to get a work permit.

Yes - Auckland is a very quiet city compared to others.. no been there meself but know people who have.. it's very laid back..

p.s. if you go can you post back several cases of cloudy bay.

 

I dont live there but am half kiwi and have been a few times. Climate - very nice. Warm summers, better than here. Winter similar to here.
Food - everything you could want is there. As you can imagine, seafood is superb. Eating out is cheap (by British standards).
Nightlife - pretty good. Lots of pubs/clubs. Huge mixture of people. Obviously a lot of travellers which livens things up but you would probably get fed up of that after a while. Lots of ex-pats too.
Land based sports - that'll be rugby then! You cant avoid it. But you can also do just about any other sport you can think of (plus some you could never think of!) NZ is the outdoor capital of the world. Auckland also caters for just about every watersport imaginable.
Visa - yes you will need one. Am not too familiar with the regulations as I dont need a visa .
There is a good NHS.
Cars are similarly priced to UK from memory. Lots of scoobies/EVOs etc.
Auckland is a beautiful city and kiwis are generally very friendly people. If you get the chance go for it.

Had a Kiwi friend, spent 2 weeks going round both Islands in her X1/9 in 96. If it wasn't for the fact that it's thousands of miles from anywhere, I'd move there tomorrow. No idea what professional life is like.

I thought cars were a lot more expensive as they all had to be imported a couple of thou miles minimum, plus a small population means they don't have much reason for competition.

Weather definitely better than UK, my friend was most annoyed that people said it was comparable.

There are not many big IT shops, so 'jack of all trades, with a gift of the gab' survies best.

- rental prices for a 3 bed house are about $400 per week
- purchasing varies; but from $200,000 - $1.5m

- there is a NHS, but most people go private for an individaul who's fit, about $1500 p.a. premium

- my insurance fully comp on a WRX is $300 pa. 98 Octane petrol is $1 per liter.
- get off the main highways and the roads are your own.

- food is as per UK and at about the same prices - chips, curries, chinese, etc etc.

- nightlife - depends wot u're used to. Won't compare to London, but as good as some of the UK provincial cities.
