Just picked up a leaflet on the revised charges as of 31 March. Between 10pm and 6am everything's gonna be a quid (trailers are also a pound), except motorbikes which will be free During the day (6am - 10pm)everything remains the same as now, except bikes, which are still free
The question now has to be if the night traffic can go through cheap why can't the day traffic? and as the bridge has paid for itself so why can't it be free?

A study was carried out into with regard to scraping the tolls. The report stated that scapping the tolls would encourage 1/3 more usage and hence present a traffic problem.
However the fact that this report was still underway AFTER dartag purchased the new crossing hardware suggests that they didn`t give a f*** and were always going to continue charging!!!!!!!

The toll was increased to pay for the bridge, with it reverting to central government ownership, once paid for. It was projected to take just 14 years to pay for the bridge but in fact took only 11 years.
Since then, Gordon Brown has been sticking the millions that it generates in his back pocket.
As to the suggestion that scrapping the fee would cause increased traffic, does anyone avoid using the bridge/tunnel to save a quid? Driving all the way into London and using the free Blackwall tunnel and then driving back out again, perchance?
Dick Turpin is alive and living in Dartford.

It can't be free as the toll income is going to be used to pay for other traffic improvements in the area. Anyone want to bet that means more scameras?
Surely ithout the tolls there would be more capacity on the raod anyway? Its the tolls that cause the jams at the moment, so if it was free there would be no problem.

F*CK OFF, he lives at the Humber Bridge!!!:
It costs £2.50 each way and the only people who get it free are councillors and those visiting people in Hull prison
Just because we were once Humberside, our cancer care is in Hull, so we on the South bank are charged for getting cancer, needing major surgery, and other major healthcare
BTW: the £1 for the Dartford crossing will be for maintenance, and paying staff etc. Don't knock it, by the government's reckoning, Londoners should pay every time they cross the Thames, wherever they cross:
In fact, I'm going to ring Ken and suggest it:
