Someone has asked me to write them a character reference, an as I've never done one before, I'm unsure what to write. I've done a reference for a job before, should it be written along the same lines, or done differently. Anyone know any websites/ideas
to help me out?

Forget what to write. Find out how much they will pay .For a real good "Glowing" reference i would want £100.00.
£50.00 would buy them a reasonable,"not a bad lad" type reference.
How bad do they need it???
Think of it as a business deal !!!!!!!!!

golden rule is not to write anything slanderous;
if it's a job reference, state how long the person was in the job, what the job title was, what the job duties were and then make comment (postive or neutral only) about how the duties were performed
use adjectives such as good or excellent if possible; if not possible don't make any comment
i reckon it's up to the new employer to suss out what you've missed
eg 'i knew fred from date x to date y at company z where was employed as a programmer. he worked on the euro currency conversion project during this period.
we found his time keeping skills exemplary, and was a good team player'
(ie nothing negative, but this reference is saying that the person turned up to work and was good company down the pub, but did f. all by way of work [but obviously don't write that])
if it's a personal reference same thing applies, except just state how long u've known the person, in what capacity and any family background that's relevant; again, nothing slanderous
regards

I have to do quite a few of these and I like to ensure my @rse is covered
Oh and if you do use the wording above remeber to replace Taff with your own name...
