Half Life HEEEEEELP!!!
#1
Guy's
I went and bought Half Life (Counter Strike) a few weeks ago and have finally got round to loading it up...........
But horror of horrors I can't get it to run. All I get is a monitor error saying "Out of Scan Range. Input 1".
So I rang Sierra and the guy told me I probably needed to download the latest nVidia detonatorxp driver which I did. Then all excited started the game and ho hum got the same error message.
Dearly want to play with you guys but no hope yet.
The PC is an Evesham Athalon 1.2Mhz 256MB DDR Ram and nVidia GeForce2 64MB video card. Running through a Compaq P900 monitor.
Any help gratefully received.
Sad and wanting to play
Dave

Steve,
The detonator drivers are for any Geforce card because it is Nvidia's chipset or whatever, so what manufacturer is not material, apparently.
However, it is material that you get the GeForce2 ones for GeForce2 card etc. and obviously the ones for your operating system.
From Dave's description, it sounds like H/L or Cs doesn't come up at all.
Dave in your display settings on control panel does it show tabs for Nvidia now?

You got the retail patches?
Or even the new version out today 1.3.
Go to counter-strike.net for more details on downloading it/them.
Does it just not fire up at all? What about Half Life, can you get that to run on its own?
I run my CS with a Geforce2 card and have just loaded the detonator drivers, they are definately better. Sorry.

as bazza says definitely get the upgrades today for CS and HL.
if HL does not work either wot error message does it throw up ?
do you have correct compaq monitor drivers for the actual monitor you have ?
have you got the latest actual grpahics card drivers from the manufacturer of your geforce 2 card ? ie from Creative etc
Any similar probs with other games ? esp FPS's....
weird error message that one. hope u sort it to join us soon !

bazza - i thought u still needed to confirm uptodate card manfacturer drivers
from nvida site on win95/98/ME...
"The drivers available here are NVIDIA reference drivers and are provided "as is" with NO TECHNICAL SUPPORT. They do not contain OEM/manufacturer specific customizations that shipped with your NVIDIA video card. Please consult your board manufacturer or OEM for supported drivers."
I always check to see if creative have uptodate stuff as well ? most manufacturers tend to tweak stuff to suit their cards ?
latest drivers i downloaded from creative game improved support for some named games.
so worth checking web site of your card manufacturer ?

Are you running a daft screen res and refresh on your big monitor?
Humour me by dropping it down to something simple like 1024x768 @ 70hz and 16 bit colour depth and then try it.
Pound to a pinch of **** it will work.
What you do after that I don't know.......you prob dont want to run at this res all the time.
n.b I run my 19" at 1152x864 @85hz with no probs in any Sierra games but I did see this 'fix' posted by a Sierra Techie a while back on an FAQ site.
edited due to crop spilling

I FIXED IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!
I feel a bit daft, when I bought the computer the closest Compaq driver I could find was for the V900, so I selected that. Went onto compaq.com today and downloaded the P900 driver........... guess what..
It WORKS....
but now I have to go and mow the lawn first.
See you all very soon.

see you later.
