Seriously, why are most vans white.

I expect is it becuase it is not a colour that has any meaning so does not conflict with most companys brands etc?

Question

Only colour that comes in one shade, so it is easier to match when the plonker driving knocks another hole in it.

Question

I would think it is something to do with cost, white paint presumably being the cheaper to use ??

I once asked this a long time ago of someone...

White paint is indeed cheaper to produce than others and this is allied to the fact that many vans are sign-written or resprayed in company/corporate colours and white is the best base colour to start with.

(Currently utilising 35+ White Vans (with sign-writing )

Traffic Police supposedly play snooker, and pull cars of various colours as if they had potted them in such a game.

But you can't pot a white!!!

BTW, i am being serious here.

I'm sure like some topics posted by me, this one will end up in the muppet show, but the serious answer, to keep it out of there, I would agree with Puff. Cheaper, and a good base colour for signage etc.

?also 'cos white absorbs light, rather than reflects light (or is it vice-versa?); either way dents, etc show up less on white vehicles.

oh, and 'cos of its absorption/reflection properties it takes less coats of paint to achieve the same effect as a darker colour.

No but you need to hit the white ball before you pot any other colour. Therefore it could be argued that in playing cop snooker you'd go
white, red, white, black, white, red, white, green etc.

I wonder if silver counts as white?

There white coz its a secret Code!!! It means "I THINK I HAVE THE RIGHT TO CUT ANYBODY UP AND KNOCK MOTORBIKES OFF THE ROAD"! They are on the same sort of LOW LOW scale as Black Cab Drivers in London!

Cool

Sorry chaps but I have to disagree with both Fast bloke:

There is more than one shade of white depending on which manufacturer you buy your white van from, and have you ever tried to by white paint to paint your house with, there are millions of whites and you always get the wrong one

And boomer:

But you can't pot a white!!!

That is also not strictly true, I am an expert at potting the white, infact I can pot the white better than any colour

White paint is cheaper because paint is white to start with, they add colours to white paint to make other colours.

Plus it makes the plonkers easier to identify on the road!

Cool

You Fools.

If they were any other colour, they wouldn't be white vans, now would they?

QED, they all have to be white.

Morons.

BarryK,

they may be owned by someone called "White"!!

Then you could have blue White vans.

Boomer,

You a Coventry fan?

Down South there is a place where they are all one colour. They are Isle of Wight vans.
