Does anybody know what the circumstances are regarding claiming unemployment benefit if you were sacked from your last position? I know of someone who has recently been sacked for attempting to steal goods from work and from what i can tell has just walked straight into free cash from the government. Surely this cant be right?

This is the first thing that has to go if this country is to survive. Too many people claiming this which I pay for. I can't believe that there's no public outcry because of it..

I was aware that we had a bit of a serious situation with benefit in this country but this just stunned me. I lose a massive chunk of my wages every month in tax to pay for this guy's cigarette habit, eating fast food and now its seems going on holiday.

Its not as if he was just sacked for the offence either, he was actually charged by the police but still seems to be entitled to a free ride

I thought you had to wait 3 months before you could get Jobseekers if you were sacked or left a job.
Income support may be avalable in some cases i belive.
To be honest om not realy sure as ive never been put of work since i left school ...21 years ago, but in 6 weeks im packing it all in to look after my new son so the misses can go back to work....dont know how ill cope not going to work , it seemed a good idea at the time

sanction for misconduct/leaving voluntary in JSA is 28 weeks non payment of benefit AFAIK, but then you can claim hardship which to me is a load of ballicks.

cheers
