where do you go on holiday ??????? scooby an all
I don't have a problem other than that Diablo was trying to sell Scotland as a holiday location where you don't have to learn another language. The language is certainly more colourful, but I don't believe those sassenachs will believe a word of it. He also mentioned great food. Porridge is a bit boring after two weeks, and the haggis are really hard to catch in the high season, especially as they can smell foreigners at such a great distance.
p.s. I have my own clan tartan

couple of questions..... looking to go away for two weeks pretty soon but here's the dilemma
1. go away somewhere far away, sandy beach, good diving, no scooby
2. go away somewhere not quite that far away and face endless miles of tarmac ?
anyone got any good suggestions for a cool european destination ? have to do all the driving as the wife aint insured to drive the p1. Anyone ever put there scooby on the train across france ?
cheers for any help

The train across France is excellent. I haven't done it in a car, but we did it on bikes a couple of years ago. Takes all the crap out of it. Best advice would be to head for the mountains. Roads around the Pyrenees are fantastic. Perfect surfaces, little traffic and a good few tunnels for sound testing exhausts. The wine and food are superb. Be careful if you go into Spain at their justice system is a bit tough. (They throw you in jail until you produce a large amount of cash or bonds.) I haven't had a motoring holiday to the Alps, but I am sure it will be a similar story. If you can be arsed going all the way to Italy, you will find an entire nation of car fanatics. The main problem is that as far as I could find out, they have no traffic laws or guidelines at all. This can cause some concerns if you really value your paintwork
Greg, if you want to drive brilliant and quiet roads, see some of the best scenery in europe, eat fantastic food, stay in great hotels lie on clean sandy beaches and meet really nice people then tour the North of Scotland!!
Honestly!!
Just can't guarantee what the weather will do!
North west coast has some of the best roads and scenery anywhere.
D
Or, do what I'm gonna do and fly to somewhere hot and sunny

South of France - July onwards - Not many tourists?? - are you kidding - this is when 50 million French head south - particularly the Parisians...

You would if you go to the highlands. Most French people speak better English than the scots.

I go to Scotland every year. It really does rock. SUL in Fort William, Inverness, Ullapool and Skye. We spent half the week on the beaches up near Mallaig(?) - beautiful white sand beaches, and a full tank of petrol for a return trip from Fort William (assuming no traffic and lots of loud pedal
)
I'm there again second half of August brmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!

Ring of Kerry, South-west Ireland. Best of both worlds. Good beaches, in the Gulf Stream (so there's palm trees on the beach too), great food, great beer, and some of the best Scoob roads on the planet
Take the ferry to Cork otherwise it takes all day to get there

Actually must go back and agree with Diablo and Jaggy now. All the corners in Ireland (Antrim, Donegal, Kerry and Wexford) and the North of Scotland do have some of the best and most interesting roads I have had the pleasure to have driven, and the craic is always mighty.
Taken various scoobs to France.
Father in Law has a Gite tucked away in the Charente. Loads of lakes with sandy beaches , Good food , wine and very few Parisiens.
Toured the Dordogne region as well ditto the above.
Weather is usually good July / August / September.

i'd love to go to scotalnd but the wife is insisting that we go somewhere where the chance of meeting another english speaking scooby owner is very remote..... so it looks like a plane ride somewhere
but hey, maybe someone will point me in the right direction

Hi all
many thanks for all the info, still totally un-decided what to do, Italy looks fav at the moment, but trying to find if I can get the car on the train to cut down on motoring time.
Just got back from Perugia on a business trip, the roads there are just built for scoobies !

If u can, get to corsica, fantastic beaches - south of porto vechio. Think u can get ferry from Marselles (spelling?) great landscape aswell, had a look round early june whilst holidaying in Sardinia. Got me little hired Ford Ka stuck in sand near beach there.
