Anyone out there have any experience with Navy life?Im looking to join up in September as im so fed up with civi life,plus I want to see other parts of the World.My question is what sort of Technical trade is best to go for in the Navy.I come from a solid Telecomms Background,I've got my MCSE,plus reasonable GCSE/A-Level grades.
Any Suggestions from ex-service men???

ex LMA, did 7 years. dont bother joining mate, its crap!
if you MUST join the armed forces, join the RAF. these guys get treated better, better food, and depending on trade, still get to see a bit of the world.
navy changed a lot. manpower shortages were bad when i left ( 5 years ago), even worse now. if you are living 'onboard', the food is appalling. do not discount this fact. if you are on a base in the middle of the sticks, its an important thing, its one of the few things to look forward to.
you will drink too much for your own good, run up debts due to a playboy lifestyle, and leave disillusioned.
dont mean to put a downer on it, but can speak from experience.

Don't forget as well you will be forced to wear large white flares which may have looked good on John Travolta but probably do little for a man in 2001.
