Got an E-Mail telling me to delete SULFNBK.EXE from Windows , is this a hoax?
#1
Hello all,
I recieved an E-Mail from a relative telling me to delete SULFNBK.EXE from the Command directory of Windows via Windows explorer, which I did.
I then recieved another E-Mail from the same relative telling me it may be a hoax!!
My questions are, is it a hoax? should I have left it in place? If so how do I reinstate the file? What will happen if I don't reinstall it?
I have tried to run find file on D drive with my Windows CD in place, and loaded Norton Utilities to try and run the Unerase Wizard, both unsuccesfully.
Everything seems to be OK up to now but who knows.
I am no expert on computers by the way.
Cheers MTR

Martin,
it is a HOAX!!
Search Scoobynet (last month) for a fix, or check the usual AV companies.
No immediate worries if you deleted the file (SULFNKB.EXE), but may eventually need it back.

Hi Martin
Glad you got it sorted. As an aside, it's always worth checking a search engine with a phrase from the email - 999 times out of 1000 it will give you many, many hits along with hoax warnings...
Nick.

Martin and Richard,
Thanks for the replies, I haven't been able to check until now, as I have have been working on my wifes Sierra.
I'm clueless with computers, but luckily can still just about manage with the spanners.
Cheers, Martin.

Banshi,
I cannot E-Mail you as I do not know your E-Mail address, and I have tried to contact Chris (Mellow Yellow?) but no ones answering the phone at his house, so had to leave a message on his answer phone, and I left a message at his works to contact me.
You can phone me on 0161 681 2020 Ext 2791 at work, I start at 7:30am, if you want.
Cheers MTR
