With points and exceeding 100 I would have thought a ban is very likely. A ban can be as little as 14 days though. If he wants to keep his licence he needs to talk to a specialist motoring brief might cost him though and do nothing for him in the end.

I guess i got lucky then when i got caught on the M1,
3 points £40 fine and this was for doing a 104mph!!!!
I guess it all came down to my attitude,(very humble)
the copper showed me the ticket for the guy he booked before me,he was clocked at 101mph but he got a meeting with the magistrates down to his attitude!
still,i hope your mate doesnt have a right barsteward on the bench on his court date

I've just been done for 75mph in a 40mph. Cost me 6 points and £265 fine plus £35 court costs.
An friend at work is a Nottingham magistrate and he showed me the guidance sheets they get for different motoring offences e.g. speeding, careless driving, dangerous driving.
The best your mate can hope for is a sppeding fine. Careless or dangerous driving is far more serious in terms of fines, points and future insurance.
In general though I remember seeing at about 30+mph and above the range of points and fines is upto 56-days disqualification for speeding or a longer ban if circumstances dictate. Standard Nottingham fines are about £225 plus court costs.
What your mate gets really depends on what evidence there, weather, road conditions etc.
The best pieces of advice I got were
1. Plead guilty as soon as possible
2. Be sorry, be very sorry
3. Dont get a flash solicitor. Get a local solicitor that the court knows. Even better get the duty solicitor to review the case, its free.
4. Consider how much he uses his car for work. Even 3000 miles a year is enough.
5. If its looking like a ban, the solicitor will say so, it might be worth considering an education scheme for driving offenders.
Good luck
Andy

i got done by this w@nker of a copper, was giving me all the cr@p that he can give me points, all i did was accidently go through a no right turn in a town i never been to before, not exactly a major offence, right cocky cop he was, luckily for me he forgot to sign the ticket (too busy givin me a lecture) so i later tried my luck and ticket was made void as it was incomplete.... :-)

With 6 points already I think I would want a ban for the speeding offense rather than under totting up as its likely to be less! If he gets 3 points then he'll have to drive like a saint until the 6 go.
Far better to get a short ban now than 3 points, but then get gatsoed in a couple of weeks and get a totting up ban!

Unless you're a celeb or politico with clout and can "buy" a result with some sob story, automatic minimum 14 day ban (no points though with auto ban) plus hefty fine ...... for doing something the motorways were originally designed for.....
Always best policy to be courteous and polite with the officer involved. Stopped twice in last eight years for motorway speeding. Both occasions in my wife's cue ball coloured 1.6LX Montego.... not the turbos ...! Funny that ... could be that snooker speeding element. First occasion worse form of unreasonable cop who exaggerated the facts ( 101 mph - 14 day ban and 140 quid fine plus 30 costs. ). Second occasion much more reasonable officer who, because of my behaviour, was prepared to knock a few mph off the recorded figure to avoid a court appearance for me and reduce to on the spot 60 quid 3 pointer.
Them's the breaks .... worth repeating. Fined and banned for something which was perfectly legal when I started driving and riding. Indeed, IIRC, Midland Red Bus Company with their London-Brum M1 bus shuttle runs used the now illegal high cruise speed in their advertising ..... and even in the 1960s, those Midland Reds did NOT hang about ...... Despite your multiplicity of turbos and zillions of bhp, youz youngsters don't know youz born .....
