After removing the old tiles from the bathroom, the adhesive is firmly bonded to the wall and doesn't want to come off.Any tips on removing it?I was going to use a belt sander as a last resort but don't realy want the mess.

If you are going to retile the walls I would just chip it of with a hammer and bolster and then replaster the walls where neccessary. Far less time consuming alot less messy and alot cheaper too as your sander belts will clog up really quickly.
If you are careful I think you will be surprised at what little damage you end up doing

yes a steamer will work - the adhesive will be a water based epoxy, so the steam will soften it and it can be scraped off.

Same thing applies if you want to re-use tiles - soak them in hot water and the adhesive wil come off

Exclamation

get someone to plaster over it with 50/50 mix of bonding and finish. Get the same finish and save 100 man hours per tile
