Question

OK, my girlfriend lives in Hong Kong. What's the cheapest way of calling her by phone? Anyone have any ideas? I currently use either BT Cellenet or NTL to call her mobile.

Any savings can help me pay for the air tickets.

Cool

I use a place called Communications Direct

0800 970 2000

I have just checked and they charge 7p/min for HongKong.

I only use them to call USA and Australia.

You basically charge up your account and they give you an id. Then you ring a freephone no. and type in your id, it then says "connecting" and you dial as normal.

You can nominate a home no. and then when you call their no. using it it automatically goes to "connecting" without any id entry.

You can save a couple of frequently dialled numbers as well - like a speed-dial.

I have been using them for almost 2 years (since about June/July 1999) and they have been fine.

Check around and get the best rates.

I use Planet Talk at home to call the USA and OneTel at work for business. Both very reliable, I managed to get a Planet Talk line to the USA over the millenium new year moment no problem from a mobile :-)

Customer service / billing is reliable too, no issues so far.

You're all wrong. The cheapest way to call overseas, mobiles etc is to use the telephone on your desk at work...

I used one.tel, and am generally happy, but beware that the cheap rates are to landlines. Calls to mobiles are a different category - still cheaper than bT but a step or two up from their landline charges.

BTW I used to use AXS, now Liberty Surf, but they kept messing up the accounts so I left them.
