Need about 1500 euros in cash next week.

Where's the best (cheapest, easiest, quickest) place to get them:
- bank
- Post Office
- High Street holiday shop (Going Places etc)
- airport
- cash card in a hole-in-the wall in Euroland
- anywhere else?

Not worried about no-commision re-exchange to sterling. Don't necessarily want commission free buying if rate is rubbish etc

TIA
Martin

I'd agree with Kiwi, although it is a bit dependent on your bank. I bank with Halifax and am sure that I get a better deal just using the cashpoints over there. You need to check of course there are cashpoints you can use where you are going! I have also found that some cashpoints are tempermental about accepting my card. In which case before ranting and raving just try a different cashpoint!

Its also probably quite a good idea to change a bit of money before going in case you can't find a cashpoint or need to pay a taxi etc.

The theory is that although you may get charged to use a hole in the wall the commision rate is usually based on the wholesale rate, so results in a better deal.

POST OFFICE

Not sure if there are limits but it's commission free (or it is for US DOllars - assume it's the same for Euros). You do have to give them a fair bit of Notice - if you go today you should be OK !

Checked everywhere b4 going to States and the exchange rate was the best too (and they buy it back commision free if you have any left !!!)

I withdrew 500 euros from a 'hole in the wall' last week
with my MBNA card and was charged £7.00 for a 'cash withdrawal'.
It could just be the MBNA which makes this charge, but I'd suggest going to the P.O. in the first instance, and keep the 'holes' for emergencies.....

most dispensers (ATM's) charge about £2-3 per transaction so its best to take out as much as u need in 1 transaction. Personally I used to use a great coin shop in Ship ST Brighton as they charge no commission and have advantageous rates.....failing that Amex shops do good rates if your down South (most of their shops are in the South)
