usb port

Paul,
you can get converters for most things that will allow USB and non USB devices to operate.
Often devices now ship with the capability to be USB or "normal" (device dependant)
What are you looking at getting?
Make sure you are on a USB friendly OS.
95 and NT4 are NOT!
98 onwards are ok

Paul,
Yes you can get a USB card converter, but are you sure you don't have then already? My mate didn't think he did, but it was just that the blanking plate had not been removed.
Worth a try.

Hi Paul see you need some help. Been off sick today but should be back in the office tomorrow. Sounds like you'll need something like the Belkin Bus Port 2 port USB PCI card. I'll email you tomorrow with some detailsd and to get a little more info on the set up you have to ensure compatability.

On the subject of USB ports, I'm having all sorts of trouble with my printer.
Its an Epson Stylus 760 and I bought it about 4 weeks ago. It didn't come with a cable so I decided to get a USB cable instead of the slower parallel normal. I wish I'd got the parallel cable now. When printing, about half of the time I get an error message saying that a communication error has occured and then the b****y thing stops printing. Moving the socket at the back of the PC usually allows another sucessful go.
I think that cable's ok (Belkin, looks intact) but the USB socket in the motherboard (FIC PA-2013) does seem a little loose. Any suggestions as to a solution (other than get a parallel cable)?

DJB,
may be worth updating the USB drivers.
If youve never really used the before, they may not be 100% correctly installed.
IMHO, the slow thing on your PC will be the printer itself, not the cable anyway.
