Problem with Region 2 Gladiator DVD?
#1
I bought the 2 disc Gladiator package (region 2). The main film disc plays okay but the 'bonus' disc hangs up after playing the Universal studios logo and all the control buttons on my remote control and player lock up!
I have a Warfedale DVD-750 (not the 750s), I wonder if this is just a faulty disc or a problem using my player? Anyone else managed to play the bonus disc on a DVD-750 with no problems?

Sean,
It might be worth your while trying to get some names of other people who have had problems accessing the areas on other DVD's (ie not just Gladiator so that the excuse can't be that you have a faulty DVD Disc) with your player if that turns out to be the problem - have you tried the disc on another machine??????
Also, how long have you had the player for? It might be worth trying to get it repaired/exchanged under warranty if possible. I definitely wouldn't put up with a player that doesn't play .
Good luck with getting it sorted

Kelvin,
I've only had the player for 1 week.
I didn't try the disc on another player but looking at the bbs on DVDTimes it looks as if it is happening with a lot of people and not just with the Wharfedale machines!

Sean,
Don't really know what to recommend in that case then, other than trying to get the DVD itself changed to see if an alternative one works. . Maybe you could contact Universal directly to see if there's anything that they can do???
Sorry I couldn't be of any more help - I haven't come across problems with specific film discs before

Thanks for your comments chaps.
I just talked with an engineer from the Tesco Technical Helpline. They said that there is no Firmware upgrade available at the moment to cure this problem....even the most up-to-date 750S suffers.
The engineer told me to use the trick suggested above by Neil and he thinks that like the original pressing of The Matrix there will be another version of Gladiator produced soon and a recall of the duff versions issued.

PS Searching around various DVD forums today shows that this is not just a Wharfedale specific problem and is occuring on other makes of player too!!

I think it is the coding of the DVD - we have a Pioneer DV606d and got a copy of Gladiator yesterday.
The film plays fine but halfway through the "Making off" on the second disk the player froze completely.
Our player is over three years old and plays all of our other DVDs (100+) perfectly (including Matrix etc) - IMHO they rushed the preparation of the extras disk.
Anyhow the film is excellent and the transfer to DVD looks superb. Well worth buying IMHO - extras problems aside.
Problems are not just with new players..... which seems to indicate coding bugs.
Thanks
Gavin

Seems other players may be affected. The Proline 1000 one for a start, although if you leave the front screen for a minute or so then it seems to come back to life.
I think there will be a lot of returned Gladiator disks soon...
