Jet Washes
With the winter months approaching and spare time being on the thin side, I was thinking about buying myself a jet wash. I try to hand wash my car every weekend, but sometimes don't get round to it.
Has anyone bought one a jetwash - they seem to be flogging them hard enough in stores - and what do you think? Worthwhile?
In fact, what about commercial jet washes? I'm sure i've heard some negative stories about using jet washes, but I can't remember what was bad about them?

Nothing wrong with jet washes, as long as you are careful. The biggest problem with commercial jet washes is not so much the jet itself, but the strong (industrial) detergents and cleaners that are used in conjunction with it to 'clean' the car.
Have a word with Mark Underwood (the Wax Wizard)

The other problem I have seen is where people let rip with jet washers at very close range - and it removes loose paint.
This is more to do with the sometimes questionable paint on Scoobs rather than the jet washers though....
If you are going to buy one, I would recommend getting an "inclusive" package - i.e. brush, soap dispenser etc included.
We bought one last year and then went shopping for the accessories afterwards - a very expensive way of doing it...
Saves queueing on a Sunday though
Thanks
Gavin

Bought a Alto J/W from Homebase after yacking with Mark Underwood (he did not recommend it - just H/base is close to me & that is what they had).
I am a bit of a fetishist when it comes to cleaning. Therefore J/W water only spray removes loose cr@p & flies prior to WaxWizard car wash treatment. It then rinses the car well before chamois. Also good for alloys & brake dust.
I don't use the brush in case of scratches.
Good for winter salt removal too.
When not cleaning the cars/bike also useful for paths/patios & lawn-mowers.

I don't know if this is an issue for cars, may be the Wax Wizard can help but...
Washing bikes with Jet Washers is a big no no, cos they are powerful enough to take the grease out of bearings, which is not good.
I never jet wash my car or bike cos of this, mind you I never wash them at all so it's not really an issue for me
Cheers
