WindowsME upgrade worth it?
#1
Hi guys,
Strolling round the local PC shop and spotted WinME upgrade for £40. Has anyone tried it yet? Is it woth upgrading from Win98SE? I've Win2000 at work (which I reallt like), and as I hear ME is based on the same technology (NT) it should be more stable. Has anyone had any problems?
Cheers

Found It Really Buggy Especially On The IE5.5 Front , Have A Lot Of Diag Software, Partition Stuff etc Will Not Run Anymore, Symmantec Bringing Out Upgrade.
It Improved Boot Up Speed But To Be Honest Stick With W98SE, Until It Has Had Time To Bed In And MS To Service Pack It.
Ps. If Installing Do A Clean Boot Install , Leaves To Much Junk About In Your System If You DO The Upgrade

Mate of mine installed on his home PCs. No probs for a month.
Installed on laptop, Buggeration City. PCMCIA bus knckered! MS denying it is their drivers/product's fault. Nothing else has been changed.

If you really have the urge to upgrade from 98 to ME, then give me the £40 instead and I'll go down the pub with it!
Seriously, not much point upgrading for 98 users. 95 folks might see a few useful bits.
Personally I'd go for Win 2000 over ME any time if your hardware is fast enough.
Chris.

Well, sounds like a resounding NO. Looks like Microsoft are using their old trick of making the paying public into beta testers...
I'll stick to W98SE for now then. Until there's a SE or SP1 availablie.
Thanks guys.

When the inevitable patch arrives, I wonder if they will make you pay for it? Like they have with Win2000 SP1. For you sir thats £16 and we will send it to you. Or you can go to their web site and download the 20+mb patch. Guffaw, yer right on a 56,6 modem.
