RoSPA Advanced Driving

Hello All,
I'm thinking about having a go at the above test. I've already done the IAM course.
I was wondering if anyone here had done it and whether they thought it was a good experience.
Cheers,
C.

Here I go, your first post and I'm going to turn the question around
Can't comment on the RoSPA course, but how did you find the IAM test? Was it worth doing? I've been considering this for a while now. Would be interested in your thoughts.
Cheers
Chris

Chris,
My experience of the IAM training and subsequent was test interesting. I was taught to look ahead as far as is possible.
I was expectnig a grilling on the highway code but didn't get asled 1 question ;-) Phew!
I think the IAM test is a useful stepping stone to something like the RoSPA test. As I understand a driver who passes the RoSPA test at gold level MIGHT have the neceesary skills to [perhaps] take it forward to become a Class 1 Police Driver.
So they say.
My overriding memory was how tiring it was to actually concentrate so hard for such long periods of time.

Yea, I'd go along with that. I was just reading the RoSPA website - very comprehensive test. It seems that both the IAD and RoSPA are based on the pricipals of the Police 'Roadcraft' manual.
Would be interesting to know how many people achieve the gold rating!
Cheers

I did the RoSPA Test in '90 and got Gold (I don't know how many get it %age wise though). I have been led to believe the two tests are now pretty similar with respect to skills, knowledge, commentry etc. Years ago I believe the RoSPA was more difficult, but it still has to be the best indicator if you're capable of becoming a police driver (but they'll decide that !!)
I hope the tests are similar as I've thought about doing the IAM Test.
As you say, you get a much better Observation Skills - very important when enjoying a Scooby, both front and rear (and I'm not talking about watching women walk past!)
I'd recommend everyone to do it.
PS hoew do you put these Smilies in ????

Ca,
I'd thoroughly recommend the RoSPA course, as it is, as had already been mentioned, based on the Class 1 Police exam. If you haven't already got the Roadcraft book I'd suggest you try & pick it up; its a bit heavy going in places, but it deals with the theory which you'll need before embarking on the course
