Any other Demon users been having problems recently?

I have been a subscriber for more years than I care to remember without many problems.

Recently I went though a spell of not being able to connect at all. Support (which is free at least) told me the number I was using was deprecated, so I changed it as per instructions, it is now better but does not always connect 1st time and is often v slow.

To cap it all, with the scoobynet DNS malarkey that's being going on I tried to access scoobynet using Demon tonight having successfully accessed scoobynet today at work, and also at Scoobysport ( ).

Reverting to my trusy backup, Dellnet (which ALWAYS works!), which came free with my PC, I can access scoobynet fine.

I have resisting changing from Demon to a free ISP in the past because it's always been so reliable, plus the hassle of telling the world your new email, etc. etc., now I think I might just go for it.

Sorry, rant over.

I've got to say that I have had absolutely NO problems whatsoever.

Scoobynet was "off air" for about 4 hrs yesterday but since then, no worries.

I don't have any trouble connecting 1st time, in fact I would say 99.9% 1st time

Are you using analogue or ISDN? Me - ISDN (Home Highway).

Since 1994 I think

Puff,

Analogue I'm afraid, I live too far from the exchange for ISDN .

Only been using Demon since 1996 I think!

See you at Brands?

A fellow green wagon owner, perhaps I should masquerade as PTMW2!!

Cheers

Demon is great. I was going to can this in favour of BT internet which is so flaky I keep my Demon account as a failsafe backup.

Can't rememeber the last time I had any trouble with it.

Brands

Have you reapplied for HH? Reason asked is I recently moved to the boonies & on first application they said no - as too far - then when I queried it they said wait a week as the peramiters/distance were changing & apply again. I did & OK That was at the end of January, so maybe you might into the cachement area now. Worth a go.

Simon,
Have used Demon for about 5 years but recently have experienced loads of problems.

Firstly keep on hanging up after a few minutes.

Secondly dials 3-4 time before it can get through again.

Have tried Red/Purple and London access number but seems to make no difference.

Am now wondering weather it may be the phone line using NTL and they are worse than useless.

I use demon and have always been pleased to bits at their service...

but...

Over the last couple of months I have noticed slight lapses in their service / performance.

I couldn't connect to scoobynet through demon for about 4 days after the server move.

It seems fine now though.

I'm looking forward to seeing what the BT Surftime 24/7 package does to performance.

cheers

0845 0798667 is the ISDN access no. I use (whatever colour ROMP that might be )

Are you guys using fixed IPs or "donated session IPs"? I have previously found that the fixed IP works better...

Question

Puff,

Er what? I have a static IP address if that's what you mean.

I dial, as per recommendation from Demon, 08453505033, analogue only.

I will try again re ISDN as per your suggestion.

Demon always used to be brilliant which is perhaps why I am so frustrated, especially as Dellnet always works.

Cheers

I've been having all sorts of problems recently: takes 4 or 5 tries, on 3 different ROMPS, to get connected; dropped connections; can take ages to find the mail server. All this is new in the last few weeks . Been with them since around 1996, no problems.

Helpdesk are friendly but no help. They say it must be BT's fault that I get line drops (er .. no, I dial in to my work server on the same line with absolutely no problems), I must have changed something on my system (really, no), I should specify an IP address (OK, tried that, it makes no difference ... and why didn't I need to do that for the last 4 years?), that I should specify AT&F values for my modem (wha? , OK tell me what they should be and why I only need them now ... silence).

I'm reluctant to change, as they're generally very good. I see them as a "real" ISP that don't bombard you with ads or "family" "portal" sh1te. But I'm now getting fed up as there's clearly something wrong but they're not coming clean on what it is.

Thumbs down

I've been using Demon for a few years.
great up until the last few months
I get the announce emails from them and they seem to be upgrading a lot recently - i hope it will get better soon as I am fed up too.

I wrote a website (www.tireewindsurfing.com) for a pal and they are using the demon showroom service which I have been very impressed with.

As for dial up - I usually use a 33.6 via my laptop and the connection is normally ok. The speed is fine for 1 to 10 minutes - it then seems to REALLY slow.

fed up with demon dial-up
