Non standard car parts (insurance)
#1
Mods please leave this here for a few hours so that I can get a quick response
My sisters car got hit the other week and the insurance assessor wants to come and look at the car, thing is her ex fitted a k&n cone filter to it for her and she doesn't know what he did with the standard airbox Because it's the other guys insurance coming to look at it does the car have to be standard? We didn't want to have to buy another airbox when it looks like the car will be written off. Can anyone answer this quickly because the insurance assessor is due very soon
Thanks in advance to anyone who helps me

It's been my experience that the assessor is likely to be a suit wearing type and will only do a couple of things.
1. Check the tyres for wear/tread depth.
2. Check the damage.
These assessors generally work for a third party and as such will assess vehicles for a number of insurance companies. They also cover a wide area and will want to get it over quickly and move on to the next job.

I doubt that she would have told them. I have not involved her insurance at all and don't intend to because I can normally do a better job myself than the insurance companies who stitch you up :rolleyeys:. That way they don't need to know what the car is insured as (although it's just the filter thats wrong)

I've had two Nova Sr's, and i loved em. If you really tried, i'm sure someone around Scoobynet would sort you out.
I do agree with scunnered's opinion, it'll probably be ok.

Surely if the car was on private land it doesn't matter if its insured
eg if someone crashed into my luxury modified gold barbeque (which isn't insured as it has greater value than the single item limit on my home policy) I'd still expect them to pay out for the replacement. Surely otherwise you could take them to small claims court to get a payout

That is my thought. I don't want to involve my insurance but the guy wants to put it through insurance which will mean they will write it off I am going to talk to the insurance and see if I can buy it back of keep it etc for her. Brun, it's good fun to drive but they do get slated because of the type of people who drive them (like saxos etc).

Would probably only be an issue if you were claiming your insurance under comprehensive cover. The other insurance company will NOT know what is covered for your car. They don't need to know to be honest.
