DVLA Select Registrations
Take all the documents for the car, V5, tax disc, MOT certificate and insurance documents to the local VRO (Vehicle Registration Office).
Fill in the form to apply for the retention of the registration number, hand over the form with all your doc's and £105.00
Hey presto chango they will issue you with a new reg no. for the car and will send you all the relavent papers. You get some new plates made up for the car, and replace the newly issued tax disc. And you will have a year to assign the retained reg to another car, or just pay another £25 to keep it on retention.
Its that easy, but as with all these things be prepared to queue for a while in the VRO, especially if its towards the end of the month.

You need a form from the post office (sorry forget the no.)
You will have to send your V5, tax disk and £120 IIRC off to your local DVLA office who forward everything to the DVLA Swansea.
You should get back a new V5 and taxdisk for the car and also a certificate of retention for the no.plate. All costs are covered to put the plate straight onto another vehicle.
The certificate is only valid for 12 months so you will have to pay £25 IIRC to retain the no. if you don't register it to another car.
Hope this helps
Phil
OOPS bit slow

Currently have a select reg plate on our motor and the car is going back to the lease company this month.
Does anybody know the process for getting the plate of the car (and I don't mean just unscrewing it !) so that we can put it on the new one ?
Thanks

Get on with it ASAP as the V5 with the new reg on could take 3weeks and you probably want that when giving the car to the finance company.
