JJones, next you'll be saying we should all drive round with speed limiters on!
I'm not getting it cause I want to speed everywhere, I'm getting it so I don't get caught out with sneakily positioned camera's along roads with stupidly low limits that I don't know about

As these are quite close in the price department, which one's best?
I like all the features of the Blue-i but it looks so big and ugly. Yet the Road Angel is nice a sleek but doesn't have many of the features of the Blue-i.
Most notable features I like about the Blue-i are;
Directional feature - allows the blue i to provide warnings only for speed traps monitoring the user's side of the road - and not traps covering the opposite carriageway
Limitator feature - sounds warnings only if the user is exceeding the prevailing speed limit
Direction of vehicle travelling
Vehicle speed
Number of satellites locked onto
LCD screen display when in range of speed trap
Type of speed trap
Direction of speed trap
Road number ie. M6, A32 etc.
Countdown (metres) to speed trap
LCD screen - programmable for backlight to activate only when in range of speed trap. Screen also used to display user programming options
Motorway feature - sounds warnings only for speed traps which are sited on the motorway network
Now the Road Angel just seems to be like a nicer looking Geodesy and will warn me about cameras that are near me, not necessarily one thats on the road I'm travelling on.
Having typed this I'm swaying towards the Blue-i... but it looks just like the box that's in Taxi's
Anyone have views about either product?
Matt
P.S. I'm looking at ordering today

Matt,
Had a bluei in the past, I think they are great, and very reliable compared to some of the others I've tried.
I know what you mean about the ugliness, I never fixed mine into the car permanently, I fixed it with velcro, so that I could easily take it out, it then ceases to become such an eyesore when you know you can instantly remove it, if that makes any sense

There was a review of these in Auoexpress last week, should be on the autoexpress website if you have a look. I think from memory the Road Angel came first, but it was very close.

I have had a Blue I for nearly a year now. I unfortunately have had a problem with reliability and am on my 4th unit now. But the service from Origin has been outstanding, and the unit has excellent functionality when its working.

Had a Blue-1 for a few days. Ugly lump, vibrates, lots of info but most of it useless, miles of cable to hide, remote aerial, hard to remove quickly.
Swapped to Angel and very happy. Switches to Missus car in seconds. And by some bizarre coincidence the best laser-jammer plugs into the back and activates the Angel's warning.
No contest IMHO.
Cheers,
Richard.

And to confuse the issue further, Morpheous have just brought out their new product, Road Pilot. Advantages are size, and a few more features, if you need them. Costs more, but you do get a nice slim touch sensitive screen. Sorry, I know this prob doesn't help but I thought it was worth mentioning.

Well I spoke in length to a nice lady at Networx Automotive. They are getting their first shipment of Road Pilots tomorrow and are offering the "spread the payment over 4 months" option and I thought, what the f*ck and went ahead and ordered
Really does look the business though. Got a 14 day money back guarantee if it turns out to be poo as well.
My only reservation is that the screen isn't back lit but I guess you can't have everything.

Forgive me for being thick but if the Road Pilot isn't backlit surely you can't see it at night and would have to rely on warning sounds (if it has them) or drive with the interior light on ?

In the comparison chart at the link earlier, it says the screen is backlit....?
Neanderthal have you received yours yet, can you confirm whether it has a backlit screen or not?

I've had a Blue i unit for a couple of months. I sent it back once because it refused to get a sat lock unless you powered it off/on a few times. The replacement seems to be ok. It is quite big and does vibrate a lot.
The most worrying thing I've found is the updates of new camera locations:
One sprang up near me over a month ago and I stored the location and uploaded to Origin. To date, despite regularly updating my unit - and uploading the position of the camera again incase it didn't work the 1st time - it still does not warn of the 'new' camera. Incidentally I've had no £50 finders fee so I can't even have been the 1st person to upload the location, unless of course this reward is 'mythical', I wonder if anyone's received one?
Not a problem when driving on roads you know, but it doesn't fill me with confidence about it's accuracy on unknown roads.
Given the choice I would not buy another Origin Blue I unit purely because I have no faith in the central database being updated quickly enough.

. . . told ya, me being thick!
I'm told the origin is harder to read whilst driving because the distane to the gatso is counted down in meters rather than with a simple graphic display like the road angel.

I have the Road Angel but I was interested to see the Road Pilot at the Motorshow. Yes, it had more bells and whisltes but not that many more than the Road Angel.
The sales guy was an arrogant sh1te as well, saying that I'd made a big mistake buying an inferior product. I'll wipe his smug grin away when I report him to the VCA for no 'e' marking ("but it's CE marked" he said - yeah right, so it must be good ).
At the end of the day, you don't play with all the gizmos after the first day, you just want to know where the cameras are that are in you direction. The Road Angel does just that and very reliably. Nuff said.

I should be receiving the Road Pilot tomorrow (Monday).
I'll post a report on it once I've used it for a few hours, living in Northampton I'm priviledged to have no end of camera's to try it out on

A problem with the firmware was spotted just before they shipped them and now they're 48 hours behind dispatching them. "Should" be getting it Thursday now.....
Still better they spot the problem before they shipped it.
