Wifey's going away at half term, (next week), and leaving me "in charge" of our two teenage lads! LOL, as I spend loads of time taxi-ing them about in term time, let alone holidays.
Anyway, I've got new worktops, and a new breakfast bar in the garage awaiting installation.
I don't like those jointing strips, and wanted to do a more professional job. I've found a place that'll hire me a 2000w router, bits, and a jig to do the job properly, but no instructions!
Anyone know how it's done, or a good site to look at for instructions, as I don't want her to come back to find that I've b*llsed it up?

I recently "helped" a professional carpenter fit new worktops in my girlfriends kitchen. he had 20 years experience and was still worried in case he got it wrong. I consider myself reasonably competent and dont know how good you are but this is a pretty complicated job.
however, sounds like you have the right bits - I hadnt seen one of the jigs before and it certainly helped get everything lined up. best of luck!

I suggest you get several bits of spare work top to practice on

Places like B & Q sell the tops, see if the have any short lengths for sale, get them to cut the down so each is about 3 feet long so you have plenty & you can use both ends.

then if you can do it get a proper carpenter in

 

I am in the building trade althought not on the tools
I consider myself a competent diy joiner and have done my whole kitchen from scratch including plumbing and rewiring
but i wouldnt touch a work top joint for love nor money and got my site joiner top do it and i could see him sweating over it
you only get one chance to do it right and a decent worktop is expensive to b***s up.

Take my advice and get a decent joiner in

Why not? Instead of having to work on the DIY all weekend, you now have perfect justification to pick up the phone, call in an expert, and crack open a beer whilst you 'supervise' the project.
