Speed Cameras on A43
#1
A43 between M1 & M40, saw a camera facing (me) oncoming traffic,
I assume this is one of the infa red flash units,
How far up the road do they get you ? think I was doing an indicated 76/77 about 400 yds away and was down to about 60 as I went by it, how accurate are car speedos +/- ?%.

Truvelos on the A43 near the Green man, mobile units along the whole stretch. At least its all dual carriagway now though so i assume its a 70 limit now after having loads of 40 limits for the last year or so.
The mobile units have a range of 1 mile but they usually nail you 300 yds or so away i believe. The mobile units accuracy is a lot less in rain/fog. Contact Northamptonshire police ya want information about the safety camera project, they are pretty helpful and keen to give themselves a better image.

I'm pretty sure it is a Truvelo also. I'll look next time.
Also A421 near Finmere (Buckingham to Bicester) on the newish dual carriageway, there is often a white unmarked van on the bridge zapping people. (One smallish orange sticker on the side only)
Good job I was only doing 80 on the speedo on the downhill side so I could slow slightly, as I've seen cars doing 'max speed runs' when its been empty down there...

Pretty sure it was one of the TruVelo ones (seen a photo on Speedtrap website).
What do you think chances of me getting done ? indicated about 77mph on speedo about 300yds away, was only doing 60mph when I went by it.

Truvelos work via wires in the road, so will only detect your speed at a given point.
It all depends on what speed you were doing at that point, your speedo inaccuracy and the tolerance of the Truvelo itself (should be at least 10% + 2mph over the limit).
Fingers crossed, you should be OK - but you are bound to be a bit nervous for the next two weeks!

If it is a fixed camera-
That'll be a GATASO then, know of one as you come to the top of the hill, is active although you need to cross the three closely spaced white stripes about 20ft from the camera to trigger it.
If mobile then a range of 700m or so although they need to put the 'beam' on the front of the car and a t that range it is a bit tricky
