Just got back from my 5th visit to France this year. Used to go P&O North Sea Ferries. Had a booking this year, car+ caravan+ 4:£595. Then we decided to take my eldest's best mate, and the price shot up to £985!!!!!. Now I've got shares in P&O, so both of those prices are AFTER 40% discount.[img]images/smilies/mad.gif[/img] [img]images/smilies/mad.gif[/img]
Needless to say, I dropped that booking, and went Dover- Calais. I get 50% off on that run, but am STILL paying £295 to cross there!
Recently came across a ferry which goes from Venice to Athens, a matter of about 600 miles, 36 hours, and guess what? It costs about the same as crossing 21 miles of English channel!!!
Well, to say I'm appalled would be an understatement! The ferry/ tunnel operators have got us over a barrel, and they're squeezing until the pips squeak.[img]images/smilies/mad.gif[/img]
What's the alternative, barring not go at all? And if those sort of prices are reflected for freight, (and I bet they are), there's no wonder we're paying through the nose for most imports. Grrrrr![img]images/smilies/mad.gif[/img]

 

People with caravans deserve everything they get.

 

I took the Eurostar train thing that goes through the tunnel, but I dont think it was that expensive Why the ferry?

 

You can take a car and 4 passengers through the tunnel for as little as £13, one way. Just buy a day-return ticket from Eurotunnel, and don't use it to go back.

Getting home might be more expensive, because to do the reverse trip you have to have a French address. But I'm sure Claudius could help out here.

 

You can buy a day return out, and a day return back, or single back, but do ensure its with another operator! And its not certain to work!

I nave always found Hoverspeed the cheapest, and they do some great deals if you book early.

 

Claudius: 'cos they don't do deals for caravans, they're even more expensive than the rip off ferries.
All: but my point was: why does it cost so much to cross 21 miles of water???? If the Italians/Greeks can do 600 miles for the same price?[img]images/smilies/mad.gif[/img]
