Moving to Birmingham
#1
Moving to Birmingham to work in the Heartlands Hospital next week and will begin looking for properties.
Have been down on a few trips and keen on Harboune and Edgbaston but prices high for pretty poor houses. Would pay up to 170k if forced - should I be looking elsewhere???
Any advice appreciated.

Brendy,
Just about everyone I know who works in Birmingham doesn't live there. Many better, cheaper places to live if you can face a daily commute.
Only advice I have
Cheers

brendy,
there are lots of variables...
What kinda house are you after (flat or 5-bed detached)?
Do you want to drive to work, or is the train ok?
What else do you want around your home (sports facilities, transport links, green fields)?
Brum (and the surrounding area) is massive, so you have lots of options. Almost everywhere has good and bad bits.
If you want to drive into work, i would suggest staying on the East side of "town".
Maybe you could rent for 6 months until you get a better feel for what you want?

Used to live there - try and steer clear of Edgbaston really - not as exclusive as it used to be (lots of hookers and drugs)
£170K won;t get you that much in town anyway....
I'd look outside - Stourbridge/Hagley type of thing or Sutton Coldfield....
Just my 2p

Thanks for all the info lads - I am going to move into rented accomadation for a while but would like to finally settle down again and buy for Christmas.
I am after a 2 bed semi in an area where I can walk to and from a decent pub without getting mugged.
I am thinking of Edgbaston/Harborne as I have heard they are good areas and are relatively central as my place of work will regularly change within Birmingham.
Any advice regarding where is appreciated.
